Yes, Jan is great in his dialogues (I like this one about Edwin's betrayal - something like "Mae'vaaer's right hand that he ever wanted", of course dialogues with others are funny too - about paladin&golem, "Ano" ogre, with Minsc when he tries to steal Boo.

Another reason to like Jan: when he's lvl 12+, his traps kill Adamantite golems! That's pretty handy when you head to those areas known to have those golems AFTER the Underdark. Also... SPOILER AHEAD

Before the battle with Irenicus in Suldanessalar, I had Jan place all his traps near Irenicus, seeing that he was oblivious to the world at that point. After our little conversation ended and the battle commenced, instead of just softening him up as I expected, the traps killed him! Imoen didn't even get to try out her new Time Stop scroll.

VonDundu, my impression was that Edwin doesn't naturally drop his amulet when you kill him, but that it has to be made in SK. Is that true?

Yes, you have to use ShadowKeeper to put the amulet on one of your characters. It isn't removeable, and Edwin doesn't drop it when I kill him. Anyone can wear it (if you put it on them with SK), but it doesn't do anything for characters who can't cast mage spells. IMO, it should be a removeable item; if Edwin can wear it, so should everyone else when you kill him.

Without his equpment he would be a normal char., but with his own made items he's really good. His good lines helps a lot in the choice....I totally agree with Zaha's post
