For my chars. the bonus points will be spend on majorly 1 stat. Ei. if I were to play a cleric - I'd take wisdom from 15 to 20 or a wizard, intelligence from 15 to 20.

Re: Even vs. Odd Stats:
I see one advantage to having a few odd stats. There are many items available in the game (early single player) that raises a stat by one point. There would be no advantage to a +1 added to an even stat, but you get the bonuses if you add it to an odd stat. So far, I've seen diverse objects that raise str, dex, con, wis, and cha.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

That is of course a consideration worth while - but for single player only imo (who is to say the items will be there in multiplayer ).
I never plan my characters with items - always without (of course in latter games of BG and BG2 I knew what I could get and planed according - but this is different.)
But remember people - there are no right and wrong - I've just been advocating my own belif
