I agree. Not to mention their music, too. Their music is not very good, IMO.

Hemingway-yech.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I didn't care much for the Lord of the Rings books. I found them hard to read and Tolkien's narrative style boring and bogged down in minutia.

A lot of people agree with you on that one (not myself though ;) ) It was a very difficult book to read (especially for me. I read it when I was 10! ) But, unless you get into the books big time, your not going to enjoy it. The true lure of LotR, though, is the use of descriptive paragraphs. Tolkien did an amazing job in that department..

As for Salvatore, I do like him as a writing, but I still see all the things that others see. Yes, he is cliched, to an extent. But, like Tolkien, he's more of a descriptive writer. I personally find his fight scenes are some of the best written scenes out there. (Also, a writer can't catch all his goofs, thats what an editor is for ;) )

Well, I can understand that... not that I dislike them, but they are pretty overrated IMO.

Other things... *puts on flame-retardent feather boa* Pink Floyd.

Georgi just hasn't heard any of Pink Floyd's good stuff, that's all. One dose of Wish You Were Here and she'll see what they can do.

Although it's possible I just think they're not as bad as I thought, but still highly overrated. ;)

I'd say any band rated so generally highly will be overrated, but some of their music is very good.
Some is just average, mind you.

@sleep youre gonna make me hurl or something :D

the beatles were great.

oh i cant stand pink floyd either they seem to be too long drawn out and boring and as i lay dying is the most boring book i have ever read in my life the reader spends 99% of their time(or at least this one did) trying to figure out who is who and what the hell faulkner is talking bout. ;)

It depends on how long it takes Fed Ex to get you that crate of Tequila ;)

I don't know, what specifically was great? They were in many ways inventive but at the same time a lot of it turned into nonesense...name 5 songs off the top of your head which you think are great and why :)

1) She' So Heavy - The meanest chords in the world, incredible vocals and the basis for all glam.

2) Revolution 9 - I know you love it too... ;)

3) All You Need Is Love - Lyrics that are serious, true, important and still poetic.

4) While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Encapsulates hippydom perfectly but is still cool and moving.

5) Eleanor Rigby - One of the only songs which still occassionally makes me cry. :)

So how's that? More important though is that millions of other people would be able to name a different 5 great beatles songs...and five's quite a few, ya know...

Come on, guys. This isn't a place to *argue* about the relative quality of acknowledged classics, but to post your examples of such classics that you, personally, can't stand. ;)

Erm, i'll take your word for that, i suppose Yellow Submarine is an important moment in the literature of a decade? :p ;)

I wonder how many would end up choosing Imagine ;) You could do the same with Radiohead unless they kill themselves, many people will like all the songs on The Bends but just not get any of their experimental stuff. I didn't say i hated their entire career however i don't rate them particularly highly either, maybe i just haven't listened to enough of their music, even then i doubt i will think they are better than The Doors ;)

The album "OK Computer" by Radiohead. A lot of people tell me that it's supposed to be earth-shattering, wildly innovative and epic in scope, and I also read many reviews that put this album in the list of the Greatest Albums ever or something like that. But when I listened to it, it totally put me to sleep. It's so boring; I just fail to see the genius in this album.

Whereas i think it is full of quality while being innovative. Excellent. Perhaps getting onto the topic of music wasn't such a great idea ;)
