Ha Ha Ha - the thought of Irenicus and Gronmir standing around in these cheap rental tuxes, looking at their watches and waiting for you to show up.

I think paladins have the best saving throws of anyone - you get to high enough level and you never miss a saving throw, almost like a permanent berserk mode. I think the inquisitor has been established as the best kit, though - the uberdispels and true sights are sweet. I don't think the standard Pally's turn undead and low level cleric spells compare.
did not know about the saving throws...hmmm could get very useful indeed...
I do have some reservations about dispell magic... though... my sorc has both dispell and remove magic, remove is for enemy stoneskin and dispell for getting chaos and dominstion off my party. dispell magic is too damned likely to take off critical stoneskins and iron skins off my fighters who are too close to the action...its too dangerous a spell, in my opinion. I like sending in fighters protected agaisnt magic energy, so when the skull trap volleys start flying around, they don't get whomped. I f the inquisitor kit has remove magic and dispell magic I'd like it more. as for saving throws... mass invisibility!
best party attack spell ever! and protection from evil! kinda funny casting on korgy, but it works.
with mass inv. your people cannot be targetted by spells, except for true sight, thats why they have orders to go for mages first, and my sorc casts some nasty combos for that purpose. that leaves area effect spells, and if you have installed kevins patch, you know prot from elements and prot from energy do not stack anymore, cast both on party members via project image and timestop and your troops are invulnerable... except for dispell magic! See my problem??? dipell is an area effect spell!

The difference with nothing is only -1 hit & damage. Why even bother, unless you have slots to spare?

Armor of Faith and Draw Upon Holy Might were practically made for Paladins. I never used True Sight all that much. I relied on the Book of Infinite Spells, but never once took it out of my backpack... The Dispels are more generically useful, though.

Xyx: I am still bothered by that. There's little impetus to take proficiency in any weapon unless you plan to specialise that weapon. There should be at least a bit more of a penalty, even for fighters. Don't get me started on mages picking up an unfamiliar weapon and using it with a measely -1 penalty. Makes choices of weapons to be proficient in rather useless for anyone but the fighters.
UU: Paladin saving throw bonuses are definitely cool, especially since most of the paladin disadvantages have more/any impact in PnP, not BG. For example, imagine how tough it would be having to constantly give away gold that you won. Or only being allowed to keep a bare minimum of equipment, even in "storage".
Concluder1: Sorry we seemed to have henched your topic. Do you need any more input?
There is one big difference between normal dispel magic and an Inquisitors dispel magic.
The latters count as a level 7 spell which is useful when fighting liches.
dispell is simply not party friendly. bruce, (they call me bruce..movie quote) are ya sure about dispell in an inquisitor being different? I have cast remove magic at a lich and gotten the stoneskins off. i think dispell is like breach, in that breach tho a 5th level spell works dispite lich immunity.
I think tho everyone understand my point....dispell cast near the front lines will wipe your fighter mages's stoneskins. remove magic is som much more userfriendly!!!!Hee hee!!!
so if you have no profs in a weapon at all all that is lost is a -1 damage or to hit penalty?
what about speed?
I am going to take korgy with me, and I'd like profs in dual wield, two handed, and long sword, two handed sword and bastard sword to get him a good edged weps kit. now, if I get dual wield, all speed goes up except for two handed weps, right? so if you get mastery with long sword and get two in the hands, do you get a speed bonus on top of what dual wield gets you? how does wep speed work?
