Basically because they get on my nerves if I have no further use for them and because they get hostile if the turning is interrupted. I wouldn't waste spells btw, I use the two sunray items in the game.
One basic cheese tactic hasn't been mentioned yet: Simulacrums get duplicates of quick use items, eg scrolls of protection from magic (or other scrolls, wands, whatever ...). This means infinite supply of one-way items or use of charged items without losing a charge. With Vhailor's Helm even low level chars have access to this. In fact even low level PCs can embark on a solo imp lich killing spree this way.

a special extension of that is the familiar, rabbit is best....
oh yeah...phantom, have you ever let them alone?? the rabbit horde disappears after a while, same duration as totemic summons, i think, and i think the vamps disappear if you wait long enough...
any way, get a rabbit familiar, is best, and DONT use the rod in the unseeing eye quest, give rod to a npc with low items, remove and give to other npcs all items, and have only the rod in inventory, and have the rabbit fam pickpocket the npc with only rod in inventory...successful pickpocket, your familiar has the rod in a special inventory that is simply not checked by the game engine, so simply go above ground, and you now have the super devistating rod device from the unseeing eye quest all for yourself, talk to familiar, and ask it to give you all items it has pickpocketed, and you have just taken the rod that cannot be kept away as loot.... equipp rod, cast simmy or clone, and this rod is very very very powerful, hit dragons with multiple images and rods, and demiliches...
note, this also works for drow items...most drow items are sucky, but the speed enhancing chain mail and pwafle cloak of sola are really good to have...special note, remember the sendai enclave drow area also has a drow items checker, so you want to stash any drow items in the cottage before going in...

LOL! UU ... that's really ... uhm ... insane.
I thought killing four imp liches (sewers, ghoul lord area, bridge, gates) in a row with a lvl 9 cleric (ahem, let's forget about the 15 inactive fighter levels and those 155 HP) in a single session would make my day today, but cloning the rift device is totally crazy. Btw, does it penetrate magic defenses and if, all?

Yeah it goes through anything. It reduces hp to 10%. Best dual in the game? Dual wielding the rift device and ring of the ram!
PvP anyone?

... considering your answer in the "Kangaxx" thread - let me guess that the ring pushes me into a spike trap if I'd live to reach it, which is such major cheese that it deserves to be mentioned here.

So you could get
another familiar (and rake in even more bonus hit points)? Has this been verified? Can I write this down as solid cheese?

Is this really cheese? It's not abusing the game engine... Just that it's
insanely powerful does not make it cheese alone.

Couldn't this be accomplished by telling the NPC to go back to the Copper Coronet and wait for you there?
And yes, the Rift Device rocks. I used a cloned copy on the local lich.

Correct, it's not an abuse of the engine (altough cloning the rift device is IMHO, because the sim is temporary and you get a permanent object from it) - but the project image / flayer change / whirlwind int drain is legal too and it's even suited to deal with Arcanis Gath.
Nevertheless I consider the sim issue at least light cheese because you can blow some of the most feared monsters to bits where you should think to yourself "and ten levels later I'll show that lich who's the boss".
Btw, there's a small bug, quick items on sims vanish after reloading a saved game.

not sure, xyx, that was my off the cuff cheese i came up with when i heard responses to the post someone made commenting on familiar drop. the idea is that you should have fam in slot one row one, and cast a enchant weapon spell as soon as you get to temple ruins, and thus the enchanted weapon should auto drop the fam....
after you kill the shade lord, the map does go a change, weve all seen it, you have to recast clairvoyance to see again....
but everything leads me to believe this should work, like the time i had jan setup 20 spike traps just before triggering the last tear in hell, i lost the traps, cause i think the map change should, repeat should lose all item definitions placed on the map, very much like the drop into a river in morrowind is the only way to get rid of items completely...
i will test later, i got a new imoen patch i want to try out new dialogs in tonite anyway....
the rift device is very much like adding the spell cutscene power word kill to a sorc spell table, sorta like cntrl-y on a device...inflicts massive damage and is even more fun than a army of planetars...

"User, the Off-Hand trick does not work with Energy Blades."
you sure, alson???i know i have tested with energy blades at least once, and it worked fine....
i used flail of ages and got the ice hit animation....
well, it worked, xyx,,,,you can confirm that as cheese, with fam drop in temple ruins...but to be sure and safe, i tested the fam spell several game days later so it might have decomposed on its own...but i do know for a fact some people have reported non decomposing fams...

@Phantom: attacking with Shapechanged Images IS cheese... though very
smart. Spell's description states that images cannot attack, every
workaround is cheese here.
@Xyx: after all we've discovered lately... I rate cloning items even
cheesier than I used before!!! Abuse or not abuse, doesn't matter
@User, I've been doing A LOT of research for Xyx in these days...
I didn't ever tried two simmies in a Chain before...
ehm, with my reputation of an uncheesy player, I feel embarassed by
a couple of my discoveries..
(done just for the sake of RESEARCH of course
)
BTW, what new Imoen mod are you talking about?

Permanent? Is there any way to take an item from a clone? I tried pickpocketing them and disarming them with Cloak of Fear. No dice.
Any other way to take an item from someone?

Sorry Xyx, I've confused the content of User's pickpocketing post. After my first read I've thought that he cloned the rod, while his point was to bring it to the surface and clone it with sim afterwards. The reason why the sim can't be pickpocketed is probably the same why the game doesn't save items on sims - they're not really there.
Anyway this is a clear case of engine abuse and the most powerful I've heard of so far.

i have a pretty good idea, about endless spells...have image or simmie cast wish, you typically have 6-8 images or simmies per sorc, each image and simmie has 3-8 wish spells, and thus 18-64!!!!!!
tries to get the right wish dialog, right???
and if the simmie or image gets the right one, boom, you have just got whole party back....good for those marathon gaming sessions, or ascention....
resilient sphere.....
one of my fav tricks, learned from bruce or someone in the old forums...the one xyx and i met on, back in the good old days....
have aerie cast orlisuki resilient sphere AFTER casting doom and lower resistance on self, AND free action...you are basically immune to magic and physical attack, and can still move around...not quite as elegant as casting maze on self, but is pretty cool...btw, you cast doom and lower resistance, since your npc magic resistance can effect sphere spell casting, it is a red spell...
g deathblow, is not the only area effect nasty in existance....g deathblow and frag grenade is my fav killer, bun bun 4-8 all had them, and is really effective on non sola games, and even on sola games its damned useful...but a power attack and g deathblow, with a stun immune character, like keldy and his family armor, has the SAME save and area of effect as symbol stun, so use with impr haste to freeze a bunch of monsters,,, smite is fun, even more fun with grenade, blows a bunch away for giggles, and if you use on party, will "shove" a character thu the mindflayer door in the sewers in the temple district, but you cannot open the door from inside, so you might as well use the key...giggle...
"a mage strives to be a master of magical energies, shaping them and casting as spells. to do so, he studies strange tongues and OBSCURE facts and devotes much time to research. a mage must rely on knowledge and wit to survive...."
direct quote from the manual, page 91...
right out of the manual...attention, my brothers and sisters, we the cheesers and those who learn from our little lessons and examples are the TRUE mages in this game....,magic is not simply the casting of magic missiles, its knowing how the game engine works, to be the mage or better, sorc, or best of all bun bun, leading the party, and making the best use of all the special abilites to fool, spoof and totally bugger with the game engine, we are truely the magic users in this game...we are the masters and mistresses of the true arcane art of bg2,
we are the champions,
we are the champions,
we are the champions of the world...
sorry, queen....sigh,,,,

"BTW, what new Imoen mod are you talking about?"
its a new ROMANCE mod for little imoen...yes you can actually sleep with her....
http://imoenromance.teambg.net/
but imho, its actually very tastefully and well done, well worth downloading....
guys, i am almost positive i got ranged off hand with energy blades, its nasty, and fun,,, also energy blades will double movement rate while spell is active....having all mages and clerics casting the spell makes for a devistating cast and attack group.....
best use of cast and attack is blades or melf and improved haste, setup before nasty, then after the first spells are cast, follow up is automatic and very nasty....

@Alson, leave me be!
I figured out the spell trap stuff, after all!
User, you were right about Energy Blades.

so what is endless spells???
i guessed right, eh?? using images to cast wish spell....
"@User, I've been doing A LOT of research for Xyx in these days...
I didn't ever tried two simmies in a Chain before...
ehm, with my reputation of an uncheesy player, I feel embarassed by
a couple of my discoveries.. "
i have, and it dont work, you get one simmie with a chain contingency, and while images are fun, i am a image expert after all, simmies are something new and fun for me to try out...
warning, chain contingency as of the latest sola mod can no longer override summon limit for devas....
am i paranoid or is wes trying to stamp out cheese??? i mean it sure seems like sola nerfs all the good cheese...why i LOVE wes mods, its really a accomplishment to cheese one of his battles...
alson knows what i mean....
oh yeah, swap potions and jahiera.....
buy a chain contingency scroll from ribaud after underdark, and give to jahiera,, drink a potion, replace with scroll and now jahiera has cast chain contingency....load up a triple natures beauty, and its only drawback is almost nullified...
natures beauty blindness cannot be saved against, but it can be stopped by magic resistance, so look at how magic resistance works....
a 60% resistant being, like a dragon, 6 out of 10 spell attacks are stopped cold, this is why spells like flame arrow are good for magic resistant beings, and magic missile, as each missile or arrow counts as a seperate attack, so a magic missile attack by a high level mage is actually 6-8 attacks, some of which will get thru magic resistance and do damage...so a triple natures beauty has got 3 times the chance of punching thru magic resistance and blinding the target...good tactics for eclipse and asccention...giggle...
someone good with probability theory can work out the math, but a ball park guessstimate might be around 50-70% chance of gettting thru magic resistance...oh yeah.....
oh hey guys....didnt you forget spook should be listed as a script breaker???
a triple spook attack via sequencer is the ultimate anti dragon killer....have 2-4 mages sequence spook, and have each unload on dragon simultaneously...punch thru any magic resistance and panic it....so why not have a script breaking section in the spell guide, with 3 superb spells....
spook, chaos and khelbens....
