So far everyone has forgotten the most powerful spell in the entire game. Melf's Minute Meteors, how I love thee, let me count thy ways.

They are plus five weapons, meaning they can hit anything, including Kangaax, the Demilich

They deal fire damage which is great for killing trolls.

They last forever, meaning you can cast them before you sleep, and they will still be there when you wake up.

They fire off at such an incredible rate that you can decimate a flock of goblins before a boots of speed wearing kensai even gets a chance to swing a blade.

Plus, because a sorcerer doesn't need to find a scroll first, you can get the spell right away in the game. It makes killing all those goblins very easy since they only take one shot to kill. Not that they were hard before.

As far as playing as a sorcerer, the most important thing I think is race. Be an elf. They have lots of good natural imunities, and their weakness (constitution) doesn't matter because anything higher than 16 on anyone but a warrior is just a waste. Throw everything into wisdom and desxterity. 19 dexterity gives you a bonus to hit with range weapons, and since you are using a sling and Melf's Minute Meteors, that is a big bonus. Wisdom gives you magic deffense. Strength isn't that important except to carry, since it doesn't help your to hit with range weapons, and you can pick up a belt pretty quick. 12/19/16/10/18/10 are good stats for a sorcerer.

Oh, and for some bonus cheese. If you are a kensai mage, you should be using katanas, of course, but the glory of Melf's Minute Meteors is that if you cast it while dual wielding, you keep your off hand weapon and it turns into a ranged attack. This means you can hit enemies from across the room with Celestial Fury or Crom Fayer, or what ever you have in your off hand while you also pummel them with MMM.

MMM should be your primary weapon until Staff of Magi...

best of all, add improved haste with fighter mage multi, and click on g deathblow, decimate a room full of mind flayers in one stinking round....

its obscene....sola with melf and g deathblow..not as fun as area effect, but works just as well...hehehhehe....
