Solo monks.

Guys,

Couple of questions:

1). Where do you find this acension mod and what does it do? Curious trying it solo with monk. Found SOA & ToB quite easy with solo monk.

2). What do improved mages do exactly? Have not tried game with improved battles etc, playing core with a monk -vs- mages is not much of a contest with 100+ magic ressitance etc.

Also wanted to say thankyou to everyone who posts here and has made my BG experience such a positive one. Even though I do not post often reading your posts and ideas truly enhanced my enjoyment of the game.

Ascension makes the final battle in ToB dramatically harder. You can find the improved battles and other mods in the link.

Ascension does make the final battle much harder. My first attempt with a solo monk ended in abject failure. Not that I want to discourage, just want you to be prepared. Now, I am getting my monk to level 50 (cap removed) before trying again. FWIW, the only documented success with a solo character is with a wild mage, as indicated by Littiz above.

If you do succeed with your solo monk in Ascension, please tell us about it.

I think I made myself clear on this a few months ago (might've been a year). I play good, but only on paper... see what I mean? Come on, good characters get all the advantage and good storyline. Being "willing to do anything to crawl up to the top," I had no choice to pick good and then change alignments whenever there is an advantage. BAH to "my sacred honor (or what's left of it)!" I am,

Hey BG Fan,

Will do, installed Acension mod and am going to try and tackle it solo 1st with a swashie. Just finished a full run through with a Monk and need something different.

Really looking forward to trying out the improved battles though. Thanks again for the help.

You should know that it is close to impossible to solo the ascention. I know of no one who has done it as yet, but I know of a lot who have tried....

Ok, I am calling it quits. Time to put the solo monk to rest.

It's impossible to solo, even with a level 50 monk. Thanks to User, I even make my monk time-stop immune, to no avail. The problem is with all the summons and minions, not counting the Five, which are already hard enough to kill. Plus the mariliths and what-nots at each pool, I had my hands full. :l

So, what's next?

Wild mage, perhaps.

A brave effort all the same Baldursgate Fan Kudos for trying............ Impressive that you made it as far as you did.

I'm currently undecided weather to make my next solo effort thru SOA and TOB as a monk or druid........... probably shape shifter. I've done SOA as a monk, but not TOB as well. Where abouts did you get the patch to enable your monk to go to lvl50? I don't think I would use it for a solo effort without ascention.......... that might be something I want to try in the future.

Still working my solo swashie through, up to ToB now. Once that's done thinking f/mut perhaps will do the monk again. I did load up my monks end game with ascension installed and was FREAKED out by the changes ascension made to that last battle.

It did look MUCH tougher. There is something about taking a charecter all the way through though. As opposed to loading up an end game. Still want to try it. Could really use a few more hours in the day. <g>>

Heh, now I understand what folks meant by monks being unable to solo a monk in a mod like ascension. Still working on my swashbucker. Pretty sure it can be done but getting stuck in the last round of the final battle. Think there must be a puzzle in the order of killing because some opponents seem invulnarable to attack.

I think some folks have protection from magic weapons, so you will need to hit them with non-magical ones. There are some you can get at Yaga Shura's palace.

A friend of mine soloed a final-battle-add-on that he made himself...apparently against all the major enemies from the Baldur's Gate series (Melissan, Irenicus, Bodhi, and even Sarevok)
Needless to say, he doesnt have any improved versions

Sorry, but he doesnt think its good enough for others to play yet (probably right, all he did was add in Irenicus, Bodhi, and Sarevok to the final Amellysan confrontation and write some cheap lines)

Ohhhh, bless my old soul. Tell Grandpa, can a monk solo himself through ToB on normal or easy with no mods installed? Bless ye souls. Ohhh, my heart!
