ever play first edition ad&d ?

in what was one one the greater flaws in that system, was that female chars had their strength reduced, i.e. could not have the same max strength as a male char, with out giving a bonus to other stats. you can imagine how happy female gamers were about being represented in a fantasy world as being the weaker sex...
Yes

And i wasn't talking about physical differences - although i would not mind them as long as they were balanced - 1st ed was not balanced females just got lower strength maximums. what I wouldlike to see is NPC's in the greater sence reacting differently to you dependent on sex - which apart from the romances they by and large did not - it would make roleplaying more real at the moment it is more you play a paladin or a bard as opposed to a Female paladin and a male bard.

I hope that all made sense
While women and men are equal they are not identical and are deffinatly not interchangable

oh, sorry i misundersttod where you were coming from.

i've noticed a few diff, madame nin at the cc, the inkeeper at 7 vales.

yeay you're right it would be pretty cool if gender made more of a diff w/ dialogue but then the programmers would have to write 2x as much dialogue & the voice acting, or only use 1/2 as much.

perhaps a middle ground approach, the dialogue after finishing nailia's keep does not sound right w/ a female fighter.
it would be very interesting to see some of the major (i.e. quest) talk bit's take gender into account.

I think the key here is "without giving a bonus to other stats." I haven't ever seen a game that did that. However I have seen CRPG's where they gave females Str penalties relative the males but gave it back in Dex and Wis (Early Ultima's for example).

Thus you have differences, but each excels at different things and neither is better though one or the other may fit a certain class better.

more trouble than it's worth imo.

i'd much rather have "gender blind" game mechanics. that way you get to avoid all sorts of fun converstaions like -

"i'm sorry but your char will never be as good as one who is of the opp. sex"

lol@Sentor Lore, my first char was a male paladin now finished game with a female monk.

i donot know why but in rpg games i seem to choose female characters..
its always more exciting to have a female assassin rather than a male one for example..
dont ask me why..
