What was the name of his other film project, I figure I'll watch that until I make a trip to the city next week.
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

@Frogus. That is a well debated idea, is it the moral right to protect your kin from the evil of the world? Because I know my father had a 9 milimeter in his room always, yet never hunted or actually used it. He had it in the case someone wanted to hurt us in ways my father wouldnt let him. So in his eyes it was right for him to have it.
Problem being, he never used it and once (in a drunken absolute stupor) I almost wasted some guy cause he put my friend through my front door (glass window, cut my pals wrist open so wide stained everything with dark blood). I wanted to bury this man dead right there for doing that, and almost did (first time I've said this outsdie of the event).
I believe guns should be left for those who fight wars.

Well actually based on the members of this very board it is probably because the Canacks haven't figured out how to use the guns properlyOriginally posted by Mr Sleep
Canada are just as mad about guns as America but don't feel the need to shoot each other.
@Georgi - In any dispute on factual acurracy (not including supporting information) I'd be on Mr Moore's side every time. The number of vested interests which his research team are continually undermining make him a certain target for the 'play the man not the ball tactic' and consequently he needs to be very careful about what facts he does rely on. I certainly don't think he is infallible but in a two horse race.
Also recommended is his new book 'Stupid White Men'. - Curdis !

I never really understood this point until I finally saw the movie today. He is a heartless and pretentious jerk isn't he.
I really would recommend this movie for all Americans to see, as well as anyone else for a very disturbing insight into America's rather unwholesome relationship with guns.
!
That is putting it kindly, I think most of all he is out of his depth, he doesn't understand fully what he is promoting and I think he is mostly just a puppet.Originally posted by Tamerlane

Yes, although as I say it is interesting too see how an obsession with guns doesn't mean you have to shoot anyone with them. The blame lies elsewhere, don't ask me where though.I really would recommend this movie for all Americans to see, as well as anyone else for a very disturbing insight into America's rather unwholesome relationship with guns.

I thought I had the answers for the gun problems in America, but the film not only discussed my reasons but also shot them to flames

What were your answers, I'd be interested to hear. I think the movie does a good job of not over preaching, rather it just shows things as they are. I think there are solutions, like removing the possibility of people being able to buy Automatic rifles, I mean some guy has a chain gun in his garage mounted to the back of a pick up truck and apparently he uses it for hunting...what I am not sure, maybe he knows where Jurrasic Island isI thought I had the answers for the gun problems in America, but the film not only discussed my reasons but also shot them to flamesI wouldn't have an anwser either it would seem...

I assumed that the ease in which people can simply gain access to guns was a problem. But like the documentary said, 7 million Canadians have access to guns, yet Americans are more willing to use them to solve their problems. I'd go with what one Canadian said, that Americans have shorter fuses and are more reliant upon violence, but that would be an insult many of the Americans that I've gotten to known rather well.
Australia for its part has banned all full automatics after the Port Arthur massacre, in which some crazed gunman shot a bunch of people. We have a nationally funded gun buy back scheme which is very successful. Government buys back all sorts of guns and then destroys them. I do agree that people should not own guns issued for military purposes, an M-16 can't be used for hunting. Secondly its useless as a self defence tool to stop home invaders, unless you have rooms wide enough to operate that sort of equipment. Not many people do, same reasons also for people owning Desert Eagles. Guns, very nasty stuff.

Why are other countries so interested in America's relationship with firearms?
I mean, its fine to have an opinion on the matter, but to hoot and holler and deride when its their decision to make...?
I have Moore's book "Stupid White Men", BTW.

Umm, how would you do that? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't he be the one with the gun?

Because it's fun to trash America (or at least that's what I've observed).
Hell, I don't even own a gun but I support those who do. I live in a rural state where people actually use guns for hunting (for both recreational and subsistence purposes). When I go fishing with my father or brother we usually take along a gun due to the large bear population that congregates around the rivers. I don't know about other places in the U.S. but here in Alaska guns aren't superfluous.

Because it is a very serious situation, a situation that this country is trying its level best to follow. The sooner a reason for America's problems with firearms is explored then hopefully we will avoid turning into a similar state to the one currently shown in the US. Why do you always feel like you have to defend the US?
Their decision to kill each other? So those kids who got massacred in a school, it was there decision? The woman who had to go in a bus an travel miles to work 3 jobs whose son went and shot a six year old, they had a decision about that? I think it is a serious problem that effects us all...even the people who live in mansions with wrought Iron gates. Perhaps I shouldn't care, but I do so it concerns me that a country that I grew up with (through media, tv, films) are killing each other.
And what do you think of that book? I have yet to read it.

You don't need a chain gun or an automatic rifle to hunt, do you? I have no problem with people owning weapons for hunting, sounds fine by me, they don't really need to be sniper rifles or automatics though, do they?Originally posted by Kayless

Well I know a few people that like to use long distance rifles for fun and marksmanship. You also need a pretty big ass gun to take down a full-grown Kodiak brown bear. But I don't know what the heck you'd hunt with a missile launcher or chain gun or similar huge ass weapons.

I saw the movie as well and really liked it. But i wasnt really shocked that americans have firearms it is their choice really. But the media coverage is appalling. A gun battle or fire fight is prime time television and they just blatantly show it all one after the other.
The media needs to control its frenzy of showing so much violence. As the movie says, violence has been falling, but the coverage is growing expotentially. It might not sound like a big thing to us, but hell kids are extremely impressionable and they pick up on the smallest things.
If they see violence as a norm of society and that you can use guns to solve your problems then it certainly isnt good news. It was also very weird that nobody locks their door in canada.
Also what is stupid white men?
