Time for sports injuries gents, whats the worse you've had? Mine is most definitely these teeth.

Your tooth loss reminded me of this German ace basketball player, Dirk Nowitzki of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks two years ago against Z's San Antonio Spurs. Although the Spurs won that playoff series against the Mavs (4-1) in this game, the Mavs won 112-108.

The Spurs then faced the LA Lakers for the Western Conference Crown only to be swept convincingly by the eventual NBA Champs. (4-0).

Having done a variety of extreme sports, I've only ever gotten the odd soft tissue damage. I know of a guy who had his sternum crushed, nasty stuff... Actually I once broke a finger mountain bike riding, wasn't painful but very irritating whenever I had to use a keyboard.

The Australian GP was great fun. Worth watching live, and I live in UK.

Mostly thanks to the weather, rather than new rules, I think. It's nice to see Coulthard won, but Schmacher showed his class again. I mean, the way he drove after the car was damaged was just amazing. He stayed right behind Montoya and Raikonnen until the very end in that terribly understeered broken car. I was sure he's going backwards from that point.

The Six Nations Championship: After the Irish performance on Saturday, I am really looking forward to the English-Irish match. My money is on Ireland from the beginning, anyway.

BTW, to us, Rangers means Glasgow Rangers of the proper football.

I'm glad to see Celtic beaten them in the Saturday's big match.

Watched the F1 myself. Would of gone to see it too, if it wasn't so damn expensive.

Love the rule changes though, last few years have been awfully boring.

And it was one of the most entertaining F-1 races in some time. I mean, 1/3 through or even halfway, you still would have had no idea whether David Coulthard would get the victory. Well done to that team...its been a long time coming.

Celtics lost last night to the Spurs 94-79. The Celts were never in the game and lost like that. Disappointing, but we still hold the 5th spot in the sub-par east division, only 3 1/2 out.

I know there are a couple College Hoops fans on SYM, so the big game: Duke vs UNC, UNC won again 82-79, but the game came down to the last shot, which came just a little late. Also, the Illini clinched 2nd in the Big Ten by trampling the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. Minnesota has to hustle to make the tourney.

And also MD got upset by the Cavaliers of VA, that game was 80-78, also decided by a last second shot that didnt make it in.

Heres the NASCAR picture of the week: Bobby Labonte seems to have returned to dominance after his victory on Sunday

Las Vegas: The big wreck took out 6 drivers, among them, Jeff Gordon. Matt Kenseth won.

Rockingham: Kurt Busch made a lightning fast pit stop that put him in contension, but placed 2nd behind Jarrett.

Daytona: 2002 Rookie of the year, Ryan Newman had one tough day and wrecked hard but was ok. Michael Waltrip eventually won the rain-shortened and wreck-heavy event.

I'm sorry, but that game was sooo boring. They're usually pretty fun, always three goals or above. But 1-0! I mean, c'mon... I't wasn't even enjoyable.

Sounds like a typical soccer/football game.

Im basically kidding, but the game is really boring in most American's eyes...it just needs more action. Its one of the most fun games to play but not something I like to sit down and use my nachos on

Besides, American soccer teams are hardly entertaining...we dont have the upper echelon players over here.

I think American Football is boring.

It stops every bloody 10 seconds! And, what is the fun of watching big young men in padded uniform with full face helmet? I don't think all of them are ugly even to our standard.

You have a few good ones, but most of them play in Europe, yes.

I realize you fastfood-eating, adrenaline-addicted, Americans find it excedingly boring to watch 20 men run around a field kicking a ball and occasionally hitting the big net-boxes in each end.

But it's great!

And, from a fan-boy point of view, there's plenty of action in soccer, and the real excitement is that it's so bloody hard to score. I know that when a soccer game ends 4-3, and us fans get really excited about the astronomical numbers, you roll your eyes and turn to American Football that ends 21-45.

But I love it!

Sounds like the same is applicable for baseball, but I still find baseball enjoyable. Baseball is slow-paced and low scoring, but it has very exciting moments and I follow it closely.

Same said for Hockey, it doesnt have high scores, but damn, its exciting...a very fast paced game with low scoring...its one of a kind.

I agree, games like Football and Basketball have inflated scores, but thats the way they work.

Arena Football League is based on non-stop scoring, even more then Basketball, and yet its hardly popular....I dont even know whether there is a New England team in the sport.

@Minerva True it stops every 10-30 seconds, but the short stops are short enough to not realize they are there, and can be filled through absorbing the previous play and thinking about what the next play will be. Except during commercial breaks, it seems like the game is continuous. I hardly ever notice the tiny breaks in between

WARNING! Generalization WARNING! : Typically, Americans are impatient so, a fast game such as football is easy to accept. It has action every minute, and moves at a quick speed. Games like Soccer, baseball are slow paced and lacking scoring, so dont have the fan base that football has. Auto Racing has un-anticipated moments of excitement, and any given race can have non-stop action, or have very little action at all, both are extremes so are not typical of the sport. This makes for a very eclectic fan base. Those who are patient for moments of excitement, or true fans of drivers will enjoy it the most. Sports like Hockey, while are action packed, do not feature too much reward (aka goals) for all the action. So the fan may feel that the action isnt really there by looking at the score. Thats why, people who actually keep an open mind and sit and enjoy a hockey game are the fans...while those who only look at the score will never realize the gem of hockey. Basketball has a different kind of action from football, but like football, has a lot of action and the satisfaction of high scores. However the high scores are so typical, that the audience cannot really swallow what the number means. So the fan base for basketball tends to be people who really can absorb a lot of action over a long period of time, and like that type of action.

There...I think that basically covers the reason behind the popularity of each game.

I do! Being from Canada I'm partially biased to the Raptors. They have so much potential but...well look at their record. I wish they had kept T.Mac insted of Vince though. Another team I like are the Mavs mainly because of Steve Nash but also His Dirkness.

I mainly like eastern teams such as Philly, NJ and Boston (Pierce and Walker baby!

In the first round of the West expect a lot of tough competition since the teams are so tightly packed. Only team that I think definitely won't get past the 1st round in the west is Edmonton.

I'm not sure about that. They're a very fast paced team and they have the talent to move on. No one believed in them in...97 I think it was when the went up against Dallas. But they took it to 7 games and won in overtime (later to be slaughtered by the Avs).

It chops up the tempo of the game!

It doesn't flow. I don't want to watch games that cuts off so often. I never be able to get into the mood to absorb. One Day Cricket matches are more exciting than that. If you want to fast moving exciting sports, go for rugby!

damn straight. I'm not much of a sports fan at all, it must be said, but I've been watching the six nations tournament recently and I can think of no other sport that is so impressive or exciting than a well-played game of rugby. it just flows so well. american football, on the other hand...

Injuries eh. The worst I've ever had was playing football. I was knocked the wrong way by two opposing line men (I play Defensive Nose, and Offensive Tackle). They hit me hard enough that my body flipped, and I landed on my head. I couldn't move for about 10 minutes, during which time an ambulence was called for. I spent a day in the hospital, a week with a neck brace, and a month off the field. I came back only to play our Championship game (dressed only. My couch didn't want me to hurt myself again) and for the provicial finals. We won that year

Well Rugby is hardly even on the RADAR screen here. Bottom line: I get about 200 channels, and not one of them shows anything on Rugby...not even highlights of Rugby. Its like the sport doesnt exist over here. Over the last 2 years Ive seen more LaCrosse and curling on tv (yes, that boring "sport" where people throw a rock across ice) then rugby on tv.

But I find football isnt choppy at all...for some reason it flows better then any other sport other then motorsports, IMO...the stopping isnt noticible.

Well, then you missed out. I've played ever year available to me (For you Canadian College ball fans, keep an eye out for any suspicious members on McMaster's team

). My goal was finally reached this year when I got the team captain spot.

Well I know I missed out. I know Im lazy, but I love the game, whether its playing, watching, or analyzing it. But I quickly found out I really do have a weak knee after I one of my brothers ran into my knee with a speeding skateboard when I was 3 or so. Regardless, many times I felt extreme pain, and couldnt move...so I missed a lot of time, and really, if I pushed myself to far, I would have been blind, cause it would have gotten me nowhere but more pain. And being a lineman, you really do have to have strong legs and the position is hurt so much, that if you start at a handicap like I would have, it would pile up real fast.

Damn right, Aegis.

Though I cant say that any player of Football is a pansy (barring many kickers), the linemen do take a lot more of the beating, and if it wasnt for us taking the brunt of the damage, then the QB would quickly learn what the game looks like as a bug....looking up from the ground

So you like the Red Wings (one of my favorite teams- hey! I like the originals!) and youre a lineman (like I was for a short time).....pretty cool.

Yup. Definate Red Wing fan. Here's a tip. Watch Sean Avery. A bit of a mouth on that kid (kind've like Tucker, on the Maple Leafs), but a damn fine player.

Well, I know whats it's like to go into a game with a handicap. I was the only player, this season, on our team that went to every single game and practice, but I was injured the entire season (no exaggeration, either). The list went like this.

Hyper extened knee: 3 weeks
Sprained fingers: whole season
Twisted lower spine: last 4 weeks of the season
blurry periphal(sp) vision: 2 weeks

The playing season for us consists of 6 weeks, with four weeks of practice before our first game. I was the most consistent player, and dedicated player on the team, and apparently was the model player for the new guys. It was a good season, regardless of our staunchy performance (3-4).

As for hockey, I'll tell you this right now. My picks for the Stanley cup finals are Ottawa and Detroit, though Vancouver is making a good push. Ottawa will win their conference over the Leafs (They're making another good showing this year). The Western, though, will be a tricky one. Vancouver, as long as they don't meet Detroit early on, will have a good chance of making it to the finals, but if they have to deal with Detroit early, then I don't think that they'll do that well. Dallas, I feel, won't make it past the second rounds. As for the come from behind teams, I think Nashville, with it's current push, will make it into the playoff's, bumping Edmonton out.
