"You are correct
high level mages are superfluous..dispell, breach and attack with a fighter. high level fighters have saving rolls that are so low as to negate the vaule of the mage. A belt and a potion or two for a good fighter and the mage is history just my two bits"
of course, you need the mage to cast the breach or dispell...rats, forgot about wand of spell strike and inquisitor dispell....
spell 40 is fun tho...
really really really fun...especially since the monster spells are modified too...most of my fights became picking the right spells to use in attack...
actually fighters have lousy saves...but the kits and pally kits have uber saves...kensai, berserker, inquisitor, chavalier...all are so much much better than the vanilla fighter its not funny....

I played thru BG2 with a dual berserker/thief (ended lvl 7/23 I think?) and the cloak o' ND worked great for me against all true-sight etc. type events. (I always thought it was cheesy that some NPCs just knew that they should cast true sight just at the moment that I was preparing to cream 'em from behind.)
However in a later game true sight dispelled Yoshimo's Hide in Shadows infallibly. The cloak only worked as billed on my protagonist.
Never figured out why, it just bothered me and I moved on.
