I just tried to get a "fun" party in BG2
Which meant, No Nalia, No Aerie, but with Jan, with Minsc, Viconia etc...

Their interest/feelings towards you being a bhaalspawn doesn't really make them better characters IMO. In BG1 they had more personality and some characters in BG2 had too much personality (to the point of being annoying like Imoen, Jaheria, Arie). I mentioned I thought Jaheria and Imoen were improved and they were cos they were less annoying then "you are a queer fellow" and "i don't like the way this group is turning out, better leadership might help" BUT Imoen and Jaheria were a little too disturbed for my liking in BG2. They kept whining about their stupid fears and whatever when I just wanted to enjoy the adventure. Same with Arie, too much whining!

A site called the Adventurer's Guild has complete sets of downloadable BG1 sounds and pics that you can put into your BG2 game. So you can still have the original Jaheira, Immy, Minsc, Viconia pics in your BG2 games. Somewhere I also found the original Jaheira/Immy pics that had been doctored to give them different hair and clothing colors. With these portrait and sound files you can clone your original BG1 party into BG2 using SK to duplicate their BG1 end game stats. Good BG1 party members to clone are Kivan, Yeslick, Skie, etc. that don't have cameo appearances in BG2.

There wasn't a lot of interaction but I always felt like I knew each character in my party. It doesn't take a lot to show a lot. Kivan is a vengful ranger that has no tolerance/mercy for evil and is deeply hurt by the loss of his lover, Coran is the free spirit that just lives to enjoy life, Khalid is the fighter you would least expect to fight, and is Jaheria's b*tch, Jaheria is the self procclaimed source for all knowledge in the world (judge, jury and executioner personality), Imoen is like your mischevious kid sister that hasn't quite grown up yet. I could do more but I think that is enough. In BG2 they don't really develop the characters more, there is a lot of repetition. i.e.
Arie: I was in a circus and they took out my wings wah wah
Me: That is so sad, I am sorry to hear it.
Arie: I wonder what I can do now that I have no wings, do you know what it is like to have wings?
Me: No, but I am sure its a great loss to you, however you must move on there is plenty to do on the ground.
Arie: sometimes i am so sad they took my wings.
Me: shut the f*** up!
Not exactly but something like that

yeah, Aerie did go on for ages.
i wonder if there is a program where you can make your own characters for BG II/I ... i would make a Yeslick copy and set my own texts for his speach. That would be a dream come true!

YesYes, for BGII there's the WeiDU (Weimer Dialog Utility) - you can build NPCs if you're interested. See
WeiDU , or
Weimer's mods for examples, like Solaufein or Valen, also
Forgotten Wars or
Team BG
That should be enough to get you started. BG1 editing is much more limited, and there's an order of magnitude less interest out there.

I was disappointed that Kivan made no reaction when the party went to the Bandit Camp and we met with the guy that killed his family. You would think he would go ballistic....
