Farewell, Gruntboy :(

I always feel sad whenever anyone leaves, even worse when they are like a foundation stone to the community.

And my commiseration to Buck, for having to make such a decision.

Well His Mighty Pantless One I wish you luck. It's sad to see one of old guys to depart. Arivederci, Laddie

Well, I have a few choice words for how all this came about  ... but since Enchantress has asked that this thread be maintained solely for positive purposes, I'll just say:

Semper fi, Gruntboy. You will be missed.

Well i disagree with the swearing part. You and i discussed that before. Though i will say one thing, Grunt did do something wrong, and he should have been warned for that. Losing his modship is fine with me. In my eyes he did do something wrong. But banning is too harsh just for those 2 words.

That's how I feel too but unfortunately it's not our choice to make.

@Buck, I don't believe this thread is intended to point fingers or put pressure on anyone. Certainly that is not why I am posting here anyway, I posted here to show my appreciation of a SYMian great.

@others, before we run the risk of getting this thread closed, if you have nothing nice to say, don't bother saying anything. What is the point?

Agreed.

By the way, Gruntboy has seen all the messages here so far and says thankyou for the good wishes. He is in good spirits.

Maybe Yshania meant let's not debate the rightness or wrongness of Gruntboy's departure or decide who's to blame but just say goodbye to him because he was a great laugh and a memorable character.

*raises glass to Gruntboy* :)

Grunt was always such an important part of SYM.. I will miss his rarified sense of humour and often unconventional perspectives...

Oh, just posting negative personal opinions on his character. This is a farewell thread, that is all IMO, not intended as a free for all slagging session. Just because Grunty can't post himself, it doesn't mean that he is absent. He has personal friends here, too, who might become upset with any negative comments. I am sure this is understandable.

Hehe! He's not absent - he's sitting on my knee as I'm typing this. I don't think there will be negative comments and he will be the first to agree that he shouldn't have used profanity but he did all he same. Never mind. Personally, I admire his balls, (but that's another story).

Can any old timers reminisce for us younger members about some of his antics in SYM? How did the pantless thing start?

Sitting on YOUR knee!? Have you got metal plates in your legs?? :o

I don't say goodbye. We can go to a pub for a drink (or six, maybe seven) again. :)

This single line chills my soul....

Now I keep looking around for Mini-Grunt! Is he under my desk? Did he pee in my shoes (really - I blamed the cats, but it could have been him!)? Is he the one who keeps whispering "Hey, you!" but then disappearing before I turn around? Where are my car keys, anyway? :D

Ah, Gruntboy, you were one of the funniest people in SYM, and your antics encouraged me to register in the first place.

Take care Grunt....I'll miss seeing you around the board.

Well, I guess I never actually saw you because your pantslessness awlays blinded me, but I'll miss the unique style of your posts.*in a purely platonic, heterosexual kinda way* ;)

Maybe I should elaborate for the benefit of people who don't know: I am lucky enough to be Grunty's girlfriend in real life! We met here on SYM, even though it tuned out we actually lived very near each other in London and even had nearly met in the past when we went to the same university.

It's kind of strange saying goodbye to him when he's in fact only in the next room painting his minatures.

Hah!! The Mini Grunt strikes again! :D Tell me it is not the full sized Grunt on your knee!

What I meant was, I don't see this as space to state your personal opinions on Grunt's character/posting style, based on your conversations with other people and *their* opinions, then to go on and qualify that you yourself have no issues...what was the point? So since I have said this, I hope there won't be any further negative comments, they are unproductive.

I know that Grunt regrets how he approached the issue, but it is done now so we have to move on.

Can Mini Grunt handle a whole pint of Guinness? ;)

@Minerva, great call!!! when are you hitting London again? :D Indeed, this is not goodbye, this is fare thee well until the next JJ Moons!

As I recall, you'd be surprised what Mini Grunt can handle. I think he has ventured into Omar's and Foul's and Waverly's backpacks on occasion. He even survived T'lainya's digestive track! But the real testament to his toughness was the fact that he made a home in Vixen's pack (this is possibly a story that Gruntboy will want to relate to Enchantress in private, so I'll stop here...)!

Well, he does occaisionally fight the cat to get to sit on my knee in the evenings....
