Maybe some hidden feature would be funny: you attack a squirrel -> the squirrel releases a chain contingency with 3 Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting spells stored in it

Loads of creatures seem to be a result of Copy/Pasting another creature file and making some changes. A lot of inconsistencies have seen the light of day this way. For one, I'm still unsure whether Nishruu, Hakeashar, Djinni and Efreet were really supposed to have all those spells. BG1 players might recognize them as the Ogre Mage memorization pattern. The fact that Nishruu and Hakeashar are listed as Race OGRE and Class OGRE_MAGE doesn't exactly help either.

Well, that's basically an area version of Polymorph Other. For a level 9 spell, that
really sucks, IMHO. You could have been filling that slot with Time Stop, Improved Alacrity, Planetar, or the almighty Chain Contingency.

Only thing that the WOTB has over death spell is the name

Ok, xyx is right about save or else spells, they suck, but really, tehy are fun and you can magnify effect with triggers and chains... all spells, even the crappy ones can be amplified by chaining the sucker so the save has to be rolled three times... this makes them almost worth it...
heck, even inc clous has a save involved...

The area save-or-elses are OK, I guess. Stuff like Horror, Glitterdust, Slow, Emotion and Confusion can be quite effective if used on a large group of enemies. Only problem is I always find something else to put in those slots...
