Spells
Nope
You can have 'em all if you want to take the time. Div & abj is wicked - cant dispel or true sight an improved or mass invis target, so ALL single target spells are disabled against that one.....you have to try to burn through with area of effects.
If I'd been thinking more clearly, I'd have picked evo (most area spells) over alter...well, no matter. It worked. Draconis was a piece of cake, but improved Abazigal? - well, we'll see if he's immune to time stop.

You can. One of the classic examples from Xyx's spell guide is Improved Invisibility plus Immunity to Divination and Abjuration which protects from True Sight and Remove Magic, making the mage essentially untargetable with spells. I believe this is also used by the enemies in the Tactics mod.

flap your tongue at total eclipse...
great great story...
breach cannot be prevented by spell immunity...only spell shield will stop breach...however, breach will NOT dispell spell immunity, since the spell is NOT designed to affect spell immunity...breach will stop the combat spells and elemental protections...
there is one way to punch thru spell immunity divination and abjuration and improved invisibility...this is my tactic for killing undead solafein, and improved liches...a chain contingency triple ruby ray...its alteration, so it will punch thru and dump at least one spell immunity...and a chain contingency will target improved invisible creatures...
i've heard that improved abzegal is vulnerable to maze...
teleport field may protect your mages from the melee fighters in eclipse better...a teleport field will disrupt the initiative round in a melee, so the enemy can't hurt your party AT ALL, if they don't have missile weapons and spells...
and try storm of vengence...its the fastest mage disrupter in the game...and it covers an entire area, and due to the constant small hits of poison, fire and electrical damage, will literally disrupt every enemy for the duration of the spell...
now liches and improved mages can be spell disrupted, even if their scripts use "forcespell()"...blind them!!! with a chain contingency nature's beauty...they can still cast spells, but only if they are right next to a member of your party...
how i beat eclipse? I cheesed them down with cheese whiz...
i rested in the wood cutter's cottage until past nightfall, saved and went outside to make sure I would trigger eclipse immediately...
reloaded...then everyone had either spell immunity evocation, or over 100% resistance to fire...everyone cast a spell triggered sunfire, and a chain contingency sunfire triple...casted haste on everyone...
hehhehehhehe...
went outside, eclipse triggered, giggled thru the inane and funny dialog, then when the shades were spawned amongst my party, every one's chain contingency sunfires went off...
killed all the shades, and half the melee group...(spell immunity evo will protect mages from each other's sunfires) then moved the remaining mages under haste next to the remaining eclipse mages, then paused and trigged all the remaining sunfires...
they never even got total eclipse up...
sure, they have rings of fire resistance...but with multiple overlapping triple sunfires, the rings provided as much protection as damp paper towels...
dispell will dump armor of faith...
btw...if you had sola using flail of the ages, i assume he had moonray???
try a g acuity, triple moonray blast...it blinds and hurts enemies...heck, they tried to blind your party, its only polite to return the favor...
too bad you didn't have a high level cleric, like viccy or ano or aerie...a chain contingency sunray would have worked wonders to kill off the annoying devil shades...
great story!!! fun battle...

Phantom Blade
How can be a Phantom Blade destroyed. I tried with a +3 sword - no effect. I didn't try any of the spells because I had to take my leave. Such a sorrow, Minsc died, but he did it his way ("We are all heroes...").
Any idea?

Ah ha...
Actually I never got a choice on Moonbeam / Moonblade - I'm not sure why. Moonblade +5 just appeared in Sola's inventory along with some explanatory text - he usually offhands FoA, but for this fight I switched them, as I wanted elemental damage in case skins were still up.
I had thought SI-Abjure made you immune to spells like breach, etc. - but it's not critical Impr.Invis, SI-Div and SI-Abj still make you undispellable except with a melee dispell like SoM or the AP's sword. I should probably have gone 2 X Ruby Ray plus breach on the sorceror - oh, well. The possibility of Ruby Ray based attacks was why I had Edwin put SI-alter as well.
Given that you don't mention dispelling, I wonder if you've fought the latest eclipse - I'd tried some offensive chain contingencies & triggers early on - sunfires, fireballs and ADHW (Cloudkill too, I think), and NO effect at all from any of them. Once I dispelled the melees and generally messed up the spell protections on the others, they became vulnerable to magical attacks. Otherwise I would probably have tried something like vengeance - well, it worked anyway.
Anyway, thanks for all the good advice - I think I'm finally befinning to understand the spell protection thing. And the rat ability is really pretty cool for straight melee fights (like improved Torgal) - especially since it includes missile weapons as well. Non-melee dispels are much less of an issue for Valygar (now level 32) and Deodand(37?) - most NPCS can't stick the spell to them - only poor Jaheira gets dispelled - and she NEVER seems to resist fear *sigh*

getting the moonbeam pretty much requires you to play the romance...however, it is possible to play the romance for a while, and then kill the romance with a reply at a particular point, and get the moonbeam...this is what I do, then I clua in the moonblade....hehehhehehhe!!!!!!!!!

spell immunity abjuration will indeed make you immune to any abjuration, including melee hit abjuration...the only thing that stops breach is spell shield, or being improved invisible...(and as mentioned, the annoying forcespell() used by smarter mages makes this still iffy...have you played ritual??? the boots of preservation are wonderful!!!!)

OOOOpppsee...I forgot the single most important part of my triggers and chain contingencies...
remove magic, sunfire, sunfire....
remove magic at the beginning of each triple...now i know remove magic is not all that powerful, but multiples, 5 mages, all cast in the same round vastly increased the chance for dispelling whatever protections they had up initially...
besides, my attack killed them within 2 rounds...way before they had time to raise significant protections...this is why sunfire combos using multiple mages is so nasty...kills them BEFORE their scripts can raise protection from energy and spell immunity abjuration...the trick with smarter mages is to kill them FAST, using quick and really savage combinations, before they raise all the scripted protections...
poor jae...did she ever get the harper pin with its +5 saves versus spells???

Remove magic is a spell that I'd long neglected because it bounces off targets higher level than you - for a solo or single class caster (like Edwin in this fight), this ain't the case, and I begin to appreciate just how cool it really is. I wasn't sure exactly what the spell protections they had up were - I was guessing SI-abjure on the sorceror at least, as well as the usual skins/spell trap/etc. - plus some quite annoying group stuff.
Yes, I've done Ritual - that was a cool fight - you have to be quite careful or get swarmed with adds. The boots are very nice, indeed
- Edwin was wearing them - do they really make projected images immune to true sighting?. Also, I'm assuming it just isn't possible to keep the Countess alive? I tried a ton of things, and even when I lower resisted and stunned her (without damage) and disrupted the ritual, she still changed into a slime & turned red, so that I had no choice but to kill poor Pontifex. Not that I wasn't planning to kill him anyway
Abazigal was OK, but Balthazar was pretty disappointing, so it's Ascension time - we'll see if that lives up to the Weimer mystique

Re: No..
Try Otiluke's Resilient Sphere, I thinks it disrupts the Ritual the "right" way.

remove magic has got some annoying things about it, but used properly it is seriously wonderful...if the target is of higher level or close to your mage's level it becomes chancey...this is why 3-5 mages casting them at the SAME TIME makes it much much more of a sure thing...spell trap will NOT stop remove magic, since its not a targetted spell (btw...spell trap will not stop breach either) only spell immunity abjuration will stop remove magic...the only spell protections that count if you plan to use area effect spells, like sunfire or fireball, or simply bash them to death is killed by remove magic, like protection from magic weapons and protection from the elements/energy...so the normal technique is to either breach or cast a spell sequencer of remove magic(no matter how low your level is, to my experience a triple remove magic almost always does the job), then hit with melee fighters, or toss in a incindiary cloud or use sunfires...
and if your mages cast spell immunity abjuration, while keldorn is in the party, keldy can throw inquisitor level dispell magic without worrying about dispelling your mage's protections..very nasty...
one more thing...liches are immune to breach...but not immune to remove/dispell magic...don't ask me why, but a remove magic spell is seriously usefull, especially if you have it spell sequenced, or cast by multiple mages...
"Edwin was wearing them - do they really make projected images immune to true sighting?. "
I think so, but i am sure that spell immunity divination will do that too...however spell immunity abjuration will NOT prevent a image from being dispelled...
you can kill a project image by true sight, dispell/remove magic or deathspell...
you can only kill a simmy by deathspell, or kill it with weapons or damage spells...
this is why project image is the spell for mages, like casting protections before battle, or setting up traps...but simmy is the spell for fighter mages, or spell for mages once combat begins...
