COMMrade, if motivation is what you need then I have one word for you:
Adventure.
...or was it "kittens"? ..."bunnies" perhaps?
Fine, "satisfaction" then.

Look at it this way: How on earth are you going to make her stay with you unless you are a good cook?

To me, it is crucial that a man can satisfy all my natural drives

I can understand (to an extent) what you mean. My dad is very capable at cooking, as is my mom. The surprising thing is, the two of them have been together for 20+ years now for one main reason: they split up the responsibilities. When it comes to cooking, it's almost 50/50 (my mom gets majority of it 55/45, since my dad works full-time to support us). Meanwhile, I generally do the chores, mostly without being asked, but that's a story for another thread.
Overall, I myself have started out simple when it comes to cooking. I can cook a pizza in an oven (a simple homemade one, or frozen), cook frozen meats (mainly beef or pork) in a frying pan (or skillet, or one of those George Forman grills), or even cook some frozen stuff in a microwave. Generally, my folks tend to keep leftovers as long as they'll properly keep in the refrigerator. We hardly throw anything away, except when something's spoiled or really unappetizing. Overall, life is good when it comes to food, and you mainly need to look in the fridge to find something. Pretty nifty, eh?

I am a very good cook. that was my chore growing up was to do the cooking.
as you start off, you are going to make soem really bad stuff, and since $$ is an issue, you just gotta choke it down.
the easiest things to prepare are just as someone else stated- stir fry. just chop up up meat, veggies, and mix in a hot pan.
here are soem basics to remember though: heat up your oil, add soem spices, add the meat, then soem cut veggies such as brocoli, carrots, bamboo shoots, snowshoe peas, etc.. for asian, all you really need is garlic and ginger. add soem sesame oil and soy sauce and you're good to go. it won't 'wow' anyone but it's a good meal with rice. to add a little soemthign to it, buy what I call c0ck' sauce...it comes in a red bottle with a green cap and a has a picture of a rooster on the front. it's a red chilli sauce- it is so good in everything. think of it as a better tastign tobasco sauce.
the simplest thing to do is to marinate some meat, cook it and serve it with rice, pasta, potatos...
key to a marinade: soemthign sweet (honey, sugar, fruit), something acidic ( wine, vinegar, lemon, lime), spices. and oil (use good oliveoil for just abotu everythign to be on the safe side).
for your spices- go nuts, or buy the pre-mixed spices. there are all kinds of spices, labeled "italian" or "mexican".
but if all you want to do is make somethign cheap- you can't beat eggs. eggs coem to about 6 cents a piece and are a great source of protein. the other ultimate bachelor foods- ramen noodles and sandwhiches. to add soem body to ramen noodles, cook a couple eggs in it, some cheese, and soem 'c0ck sauce'. it sounds odd at first but it really is pretty good and filling for the money.
I would avoid using the oven till you do more recipes. it is very easy to grill meat in a pan so stick to that.
