I hold FoA as the best weapon: hits everything except a certain lich, blunt damage, great Slow effect, and the elemental damages kill trolls.

If you have the special edition, you'll be able to buy the stolen Sword of Bulduran. This is my favorite weapon in the game, mainly because of equipped abilities and it being one of the most damaging long swords.

THis long sword is not the most damaging in the game you can get black razor wich is far better than sword of balduran. In ToB agurvandal does much more damage than any sword...

I never claimed it to be the most damaging long sword - merely that it was up there with the best. Because it is outdone by Black Razor or even the Blade of Roses because it's only a +2 sword doesn't matter to me - I was just stating that it's my favorite to use.
That and the fact that it's the only one I've come across that glows
green.

If your doing ToB... then...
Crom is useful for the strength it gives you...but other than that you want it as an off hand
Combo of Foebane(Upgraded) & Kundane/Belm is what I think is the best cause Foebane is:
+5
Kundane/Belm gives you and xtra attack
Foebane casts larlochs minor drain on the target with NO SAVES... so that means that as a fighter... (or kensei) You can manage lets say 5 hits/rnd by the time your in ToB. Larloch's Drain gives the character 4 hp and does that much dmg to the enemy, so you get about 20hp/rnd and you can go OVER you maximum hp.
Also it gives +6 dmg to xtra-planar beings and such, this is minor but at the end of the game many of the critters you fight are listed as "extra planar"
Also as a pali you might want to consider NOT using Carsomyr and instead use
Purifier+5 (Upgraded) and The Answerer+4
Purifier gives you 30% magic Res...not as much as carsomyr but... still xept for the dispel part gives essentially the same bonuses as carsomyr
Answerer makes the target CUMATIVELY lose (as in negatively affect) Magic Res and AC with each hit
This is more "offensive" than the Carsomyr for the paladin, but @ the sacrifice of that dispel magic property of the carsomyr. But if your an Inquisitor (The one that gets Dispel with casting time 1) it really doesnt matter most of the time.
Also... great weapons to use for the main hand
Axe of unyielding +5 and some other Off hand weapon (Belm..etc)
Regeneration greater than Ring of Gax
INcreased Con
and DECAPITATION 1/10 with a save @ -4 penalty
The Ravager +6
If youve got Sarevok then this is great!
Decapitation1/10 with NO SAVE
+ bunch of poison and such dmg
Just wanted to say that the Carsomyr and Crom ARENT the greatest weapons ever... neither is the FoA cuase you can potentially do much more dmg or gives better bonuses

I totally agree that Foebane +5 is awesome. Answerer however does not effect thac0, only AC and magic res is lowered by it.
And it is hard to do more damage than FoA +5 does.. I think it does 1d6+5 +2 electrical +2 fire +2 acid +2 cold + 2 poison. Plus the slow effect and it gives free action.

All those "xxx was hit for 2 damage" after each hit with the FoA+5 must get pretty annoying. Just out of curiosity has anyone opened up the FoA+5 in IEEP or DLTCEP and checked if that fixed damage allows any resistances or saves?
Besides that i like Ixil's Spike +6, nice pinning ability, shame everything in ToB saves so much versus its pinning. Other then that the spear +3 impaler is nice with its fixed damage.

But the problem with Ixil's spike is that there are only like 2 good spears in the Entire Game!!! and so its really a waste of time to put points in spear I think...
Also about answerer yeah Oops I messed up
But keep in mind FoA doesnt slow EVERY time and even with all that dmg most critters negate a lot of that elemental dmg. But I do agree FoA IS a good weapon... just dont think that its the Weapon of weapons and such

No it seems that it did slow every time before I installed ToB, a bit overpowered maybe. Maybe not the weapon of weapons but it is nice to have with you all the way through.

CFury... But I think it should hit stronger enemies - her +3 habilities are the weakness of this weapon.

IMHO, the flail of ages is one of the best weapons in the game, as is Carsomyr. Carsomyr +6 can hit... well anything in the game, and the FOA slow and acid, lightning, etc damages can pierce stoneskin iirc. Truly two of the "best" weapons in the game. Yet you have to consider other weapons into the frame, as with certain characters, the CF may be the best and for some the SotR.... the SotR's "blow back" ability is truly awesome IMHO...

With respect, I've never fully understood the raves I've read about the Flail of Ages. Yes, I've used it in two run-throughs, giving it once to Jaheira and another time, to Viconia. Yes, it can become a nice +3 weapon to have on your side. But its cold, acid and fire damages are minimal. So without meaning to make anybody feel challenged, why do you like the Flail of Ages so much?

Fable, try a barbarian, FoA and Longsword (equalizer).
Slow, lots of protections and stoneskin picks up all cold, acid and fire damage... It just rocks.

actually neither do i...i much prefer the unsavable, bypasses magic resistance (it works on clay golems...) stun effect of celestial fury...yes its a nice weapon, but by chapter 3, you got a ton of nice weapons...i guess that the quest most people take first is de'arnise hold, and its the nicest weapon there...so people are used to having it early, and they use it a lot...
me??? the ultimate weapon is the butterknife of balduran...works on butter and toast golems...utterly evil...

UU makes a relevant point (that, like Liarcor, it's a nice weapon and availabel early, and, unlike liarcor, it's
quiet) - but that's not all. It's also a sort of swiss army knife of blunt weapons - good base damage, elemental damages punch through stoneskins, etc., and slow is good for opponents with strong melee.
All in all, it's a solid versatile main hand weapon, especially for characters who are limited to blunts... There are probably better combos for those who aren't.
My 2 gp worth.

FoA+3 is a nice weapon and upgradable weapon. That IMHO is its strength. You get it early and by the end of the game you might still be using it to great effect. Thats not too bad is it?
Which weapons from chapter two SoA are still being used in the final fight of ToB?

Carsomyr?
Sling of Everade+5 (ok so i cant remember how to spell that one, IWD sucks anyway),
Staff of the magi?
Foebane? (not sure if wk has a level requirement or a chapter requirement, but its easy to get in chap3 anyway)
Firetooth?
Ok, im just picking holes =)
FoA is however a very solid and powerfull weapon, if anomen had more proficiency slots in flails by default im sure more people would realise that.

Funny you would compare it to a culture who makes aknife, yet are one of the most non-violent...
