...first I have to apologize for causing so much trouble with my "kensai"-build

...as this was a very pleasent forum so far - I am confident that we all are old enough to keep insults out of it in the future...

...ok - back to the kensai problem:

think what we all agree on is, that a kensai:

- don't use armor & shields

- masters one weapon (in most cases a sword)

- has some (personal) code of honour (means is at least lawfull)

...so from my point of view this should be enough for a "kensai"-build in a D&D CRPG...

...btw. I never said that this build is a "true kensai" cause I anticipated that no-one would agree on how a true kensai should look like

...ok - now to the rogue problem:

Rogues have little in common with one another. Some are stealthy thieves. Others are silver-tongued tricksters. Still others are scouts, infiltrators, spies, diplomats or thugs. What they do share is versatility, adaptability and resourcefulness. In general, rogues are skilled at getting what others don't want them to get: entrance into a locked treasure vault, safe passage past a deadly trap, secret battle plans, a guard's trust or some random person's pocket money.

Characteristics: Rogues are highly skilled and they can concentrate on developing any of several categories of skills. A rogue knows how to hit where it hurts and she can dish out a lot of damage with a sneak attack.

Alignment: Any. Rogues follow opportunities, not ideals. Though they are more likely to be chaotic than lawful, they are a diverse bunch, so they can be of any alignment.

Other Classes: Rogues excel when protected by warriors and spellcasters, but they are wary of the sometimes-overbearing disposition of paladins.

Role: The rogue’s role in a group can vary dramatically based on her skill selection, but most rogues share certain aspects. They aren’t capable of prolonged melee combat, so they focus on opportunistic sneak attacks or ranged attacks. The rogue’s stealth and trapfinding ability make her one of the best scouts in the game.

Abilities: Dexterity provides extra protection for the lightly armored rogue. Dexterity, Intelligence and Wisdom are important for many of the rogue's skills. A high Intelligence score also gives the rogue extra skill points, which can be used to expand her repertoire.

Rogues aren't a class like a fighter or cleric...

they strongly depend on how they are build - e.g.:

- a pure rogue - "the classic thief": using shortblades - thief-skills - using hit and run tactics with "backstabbing"

- a fighter rogue - "the assassin": dual wielding - sneak-skills - sneaking to the main threat and taking it out - but melee-capable afterwards - sometimes mixed a low level wizard in for defense spells)

- a ranger rogue - "the scout": dual-wielding - sneak and nature skills - melee-capable

- or the ranger rogue - "the sharpshooter": using a longbow

- a wizard rogue - "using all advantages and opportunities (s)he can get"

- a monk rogue - "the ninja"

- a cleric rogue - "take from the rich and give to the poor"

- a FMT - "the classic jack"

- and much more combinations like...

...a paladin rogue - the undercover-investigator, infiltrator or "jedi-sentinel"

from my point of view you can use a rogue for whatever you want - cause most things are possible and it's more or less *the* MC-class...

i think some of you are confused with what my post were earlier about the sites showing kensai

all i am saying is the actual word "kensai" translates "swordsaint"

just cuz the word means one thing doesnt mean they cant do another, such as use glaives or spears, as long as it is a melee weapon.

i am also saying that knights and samurai are alike. knights and paladins are alike in *some* ways. paladins and samurai are alike in a sense but not the same. almost my entire D&D campaining i have played as a Paladin of Torm...

kensai do not have to be lawfull. they follow a strict code of honor but also have detatchment from others so may be neutral as well. but definitly not chaotic! from their skills and such they are basically a monk fighter mix; bonus feats for specialization, stealth, diplomacy, wisdom bonus to AC, high code of honor. but "there is no honor among theives"

As in non-secular knights; knights in service of a church rather than a crown

non secular is seperation of church and state. if they were non secular they wud follow a king and not persecute other religions like many of the "paladins" did durring the crusades

i am sorry too, but i found it offensive that you would claim samurai and kensai are alike just cuz they are both asian.

u said "a samurai is the asian equivelent of a paladin", and then after that said "a kensai shud have paladin."
just cuz they r both asian does not mean they r the same and that is wut i meant

and with the rogue...kensai have a high sense of honor.
they wont use magical weapons cuz it insults their skill
so having rogue sneak attack damage is an insult to the skill of the kensai

but oh well do what u want

Secular means 'not of the church', usually in reference to state function rather than religious function. Non-secular is a double negative, but it means the exact opposite of what you just said. I write for a living; please don't tell grandma how to suck eggs.

Fighter sucks anyway. Best to go straight rogue for more SA.

it was originaly made as a kit like in BG2 for the fighter class

so some kind of warrior class need to be stressed upon
