It is not as bad as the other servers, you have to agree to that.

What I've always tried to say when this came up - because that excat statement usually came up when discussing roleplaying vs. hack n' slasher/powergamers.
It is not a question about killing stuff, I'm all for killing stuff and having grand adventures.
It is killing stuff only for the XP and gaining of levels that I disagree with.
Especially - because we are talking about a setting that should be "hardcore roleplaying".
And I've seen that happen *way* to often, and when trying to point out the problem ..... well - lets just say some people like to "stonewall" issues.
I really like what was done in the "The Witch's Wake" module, and there you got 0 XP for killing stuff, and gained XP from roleplaying your character. Would in my oppinion be ideal for a setting as Argyle, but that would not go well with a group of people, because it would eliminate hack n' slash

@CM - Wednesday is my open night - but don't pull out of Darkhorse's campaign - I will not be ready to run this for a few weeks - the day could change depending on player interest - and I am trying to recruit other DMs to run a "blades" storyline (maybe I can even get Xyx to DM for a bit). This may open other opportunities for you to play a blades character - so stay tuned...
@ Xan - I agree that XP for roleplaying only is an interesting concept. Problem is it is impossible to implement unless DMs are present and giving out Roleplaying XP 24/7. We can't script roleplaying XP so you need a DM to hand it out. In a DM led quest the roleplaying XP is certainly a reality. The current blend of combat XP and roleplaying XP works well IMHO. Besides - if you took away combat XP you wouldn't be playing D&D anymore.

Well - who ever said you needed to be able to get XP 24/7?
I still belive that the main character advancement in a hardcore roleplaying setting should be via roleplaying.
And I have a few ideas as to how it could work in AO, but that is a different matter.
Besides - Powergaming extends beyond simple combat. Munchkin characters is also one part of it. Still the same amount of fighter/clerics in Argyle?
But - anways, this thread wasn't supposed to turn into RP vs. Hack n' Slahs/Powergaming/munchkin characters.

I remember a time when Xandax was sitting under a roof watching the stars. I didn't notice untill he (you for Xan himself) mentioned it.
I LMAO.
And that's what roleplaying / multiplaying is all about, FUN!
(F is for frenship, U is for U and me, N is for N-ywhere and anytime at all)

@Rob-hin
The new AO update will require HOTU. We will be running the new update beta test next week. The update will be fully implemented by the end of the month.
So - yes - you will need HOTU to play on AO.

Robhin i am giving Stilgar an informal walk through of argyle this week sometime. If you can pick up Hotu we call all 3 do it together. Plus have some fun with the new settings. Hotu should be what 10 to 15 euros now roughly in holland. You should be able to get it hopefully.

I will try to join Argyle after I'm finished with some other games.
- armor movment rates - that right - try running from that goblin in full plate - you won't get very far.
Are these the proper pnp rules (20 ft.), or are you even slower?
- 3.5 rules spells - all spells changed to proper 3.5 rules.
So that includes Harm, Heal and Haste?

@Noober - here is a quote from Archcomet - Argyle's lead module builder:
"One of the biggest additions to the game is spells. Every spell in the PHB is in the game now. However, that does not mean that every spell is automated. You may notice that some spells have a * after the name. This indicates that the spell needs a DM to function. After the first main update, I will try to script as many of these spells as I can. For example, chill touch and alarm will likely become spells that players can cast and use like the current spells. However, spells that are too complex for NWN, such as Animate Rope, will likely never be completely scripted."
As far as movement rates are concerned they will all be set to 3.5 rules including taking into account race, and armor movement rates.

Bump.
So anybody else interested in NWN online?

By the way - just to let you know. Our big core rules update is now undergoing testing. The Argyle server is now in test phase so all old characters will not be available for a week or two.
Once we have squashed all the bugs you will be able to remake your old characters with all of your XP and loot.
The big update incorporates the content of the CEP pack as well as all 3.5 spells, feats, skills, and rules. New hack, CEP, and HOTU are now required to play. If any of you have not seen the new armor, weapons, cloaks, dresses, and other neat stuff in the CEP - they alone are worth the 120mb download.

Carefull with the amount of advetising that gets done.
It is fine to talk about servers and related stuff, but no need to keep linking to the site as advetising.
Buck has
forum rules against it. I'll let the link stand, but try and limit the amount of links to very few.
