Hmmm
We can start with those NPCs that I do not like. But first the parameters.
I have only been through BG once and is bimpling around The Gate in my second attempt. I made a multi-character game in order to get a decent mage ( dislike Dynaheir and cannot take evil characters for roleplaying reasons, it does not fit with my main character) and fighter of good persuasion (I had forgotten Kivan).
This means I only have three NPCs with me and in hindsight I will probably not do so next time, but instead ude the provided NPCs.
Of these, I have a hard time abiding Imoen, but I keep her because she is my childhood buddy (roleplaying again) and because I have played through two BG II...
My second dislike is Jaheira, she is only there for roleplaying reasons; being my fosterfather's old friends watching over me. IRL I would put her in her place, ***** is supposedly a harper working for good, but keeps complaining when your reputation gets to decent levels. I too say "bye- bye" in BG II and go for Viconia.
But favorites... I have a decent mage, so that I do not need. Kivan or Minsc are most usefull, but for soundset and character reasons I would take Khalid (when it was pissing down and he said "sunny or not, it is always nice to enjoy the out of doors" the first time, that changed my opinion of him from dislike to like (he is after all, not a very good fighter). Poor guy, a kind cautious and reserved guy with a stutter and saddled with a wife from hell...
My other would be the trusty madman Minsc. Both for his usefulness, but again he has a sort of developed character, though mad. And I just love him in BG II.
Another classic Khalid quote "even with infravision I prefer the daylight", when outside at night. You got to like him...

Off topic...
Dude, if your gonna be roleplaying, why take characters who you "dislike" and would "put her in her place" if in the real world.
The idea of roleplaying, is you are in the "real" world, as in you don't do things because you know you would get an extra 500xp and 200 gold, you simply do things because its the way you work. Also, if you were this good mage, would'nt you use you wisdom and intellect to decide its worth taking people who may be evil, if in the end I use them for the greater good.
Get Edwin!!
Also welcome to the forums.
I really like Ajantis at the moment, I played through with him and he is cool, although hearing "for helm" and constant sayings of helm can be annoying.

Perhaps I should rather say "in character" than "IRL". However, it is not in my character's nature to associate with a Red Wizard of Thay, never, these are killed outright. Greater good or no, so I made a mage myself and play multi (my main character is a fighter, I used Gatekeeper to copy a character I already play in table roleplaying).
Jaheira. I, as person, and my character in the game, would confront her and tell her to stop nagging and fit in if she really wants to protect and look over me, or leave.
I like Ajantis too though >>>>>SPOILER!!!<<<<< too bad one kills him in The Windspear Hills in BG II. I had him in the party on my first time through. His lack of missile weapons is a bit of a weakness in general, Minsc is better there, and funnier. >>>>>>ANOTHER SPOILER<<<<<<<<, I just love it in BG II when you try to convince the pirate lord that you are mad by letting him talk to Minsc and Boo, and the speculation on where Boo was hidden when the party was captured... hilarious.
Thanks for the welcome, this is not my first message though;-) but I have been more active on BG II which made me want to try being a first-level guy again and reload BG...

For me part of the fun of roleplaying is dealing with the gameworld as it is. That means sometimes my pc has to hook up with people he doesn't like (Edwin)or with people that he likes but are less effective (Dynaheir).
By the way, there are alternatives: Xan has a neutral alignment.

She says: Lou, it's the Beginning of a Great Adventure
why Spider's Bane, it ruins him. He is a fighter/theif. Stealth backstab! Spiders Bane can't backstab. He needs a long sword, or infact any backstabbing wepeon.
But yeah, he is a great character.
You're correct concerning the backstab. But the Free Action feature plus the quick change between two two-handed weapons makes it a great alternative. Backstabbing almost ruins Coran IMHO, because he's a real killer with ranged weapons. Let him carry Spider's Bane just in case and switch to bow as soon as you see an enemy somewhere, works perfect.
