The continuing problem with Jan is that every other level up is a Thief level up. Therefore Imoen is actualy going up as a Mage a lot faster. If you want juicy spells and trap finding/lock picking, then Imoen is your girl. You want to improve her trap finding/lock picking, slap on a ring or what have you. Why do you need to give her a ring for spells? Give it to Aerie instead.

The constantly leveling in Thievery that Jan has is a waste of XP, which would be better speant on building up your spell book. In my opinion of course, some people want to play it really safe with their Thief, and Jan *is* a safer bet as a Thief, but is overkill on that front in my books, while being underkill in spells. Can you really afford to have a party, where both mages are leveling in two things? That's gonna weaken you on the magic front.

Oh, and if we're going to talk expansion her (as people seem to be mentioning Watchers Tower a lot), remember that Bioware have said that Imoens side of the story is going to play a greater part in the expansion. This is a reason in itself to bring her along.

In fact, to me that's Imoen's main weakness, the lack of interaction she has outside of the main plot. Lets hope they increase her interactions eh, she's a great character

Nothing to talk about, take Jan! You can equip your ranger with a bow; there is no need for more than one tank. However, why would you want to play with two rangers? Try changing Minsc for Keldorn instead. You won't be disappointed. I also prefer playing with a full party: more dynamic, more interaction.

Getting past the thief debate for a sec, I would leave your 6th slot open. Many of the NPCs have sub quests that might me useful for you to go through for magical items, cash, and experience. Once these are done, you can let them go, or keep them.

Since you and Minsc can trade frontline and ranged duties, mazzy wont be that effective for you and I would suggest Keldorn for the long haul as your 6th member if your looking for a tank.

If you think you have enough fighter types then I would suggest Haer'Dalis. His main assest is high lore which is nice for those long road trips and saving magic missles for your magic users. He is a capabile fighter when he needs to be, and best of all adds an interesting dynamic to your party given your other party members.

Back to the thief debate. When you get out of chapter 1, I would suggest you drop Yoshi off in some house you don't plan on visiting, find Jan, and let him be your theif until your ready to go get Imoen. Trade back Yoshi for Jan before you board the ship and you should have no problems in the thief department.

I can answer that one. Stealth + Cloak of Non-Detection = Can't be spotted with True Sight. This is NOT true for invisibility. I don't know why it works this way, but it does. Test this out for yourself. The mage in that party in the Temple district Sewers likes to cast True Sight as soon as a hidden NPC gets close.
