An IP address is the address your computer uses when communicating with other machines. It's unique, depending on your connection.

Whenever someone posts a message here, he or she automatically leaves his or her IP address here, which is registered. I don't know for sure what the abbreviation stand for, but I believe it is Internet Protocol or something. Anyway, since this is registered BY COMPUTER and not BY USER, multiple users on the same machine (in this case Baassie and his other account) get registered with the same IP address.

On this site, the setting is such that Moderators (like me) and Administrators (like Buck Satan) can look into these IP logs, and see which user uses what IP. In case of trouble, such an IP address can be denied access to this site. This has now happened to Baassie. If you check the bottom right corner of any message here, you can see something like "IP logged" or something.

IP addresses look something like 173.24.133.236, I'm sure you have seen such numbers before. Each of these numbers have some special meaning (like general area and such) that I'm not familair with, though.

BTW, what I find really funny is that this thread is still continuing, but Baassie (who started it) is banned. We can say anything about him and he couldn't do anything about it. I don't have a problem with him (I don't know him) but it seems a lot of people here hate his guts. I have to say, I did a search after this guys posts to find out why he is so disliked and I find this one:

How to kill Irenicus with one hit!

I LMAO reading his first post. But I can see why he would be banned. Though I have to ask why this Goody thread is still going. Does anybody see what Gruntboy is posting up? (no offense, I can laugh about it, but still) And how about Mr. Sleep's gay-jokes?

I don't really understand, but hey, I'm new here!

Gruntboy is not as bad as Baassie was (yet), but I have asked him to cool it down somewhat.

You should read the Goody topic from the beginning, to get a look at how it used to be. I admit, the level has drastically dropped, and I hope that will be going up soon ... I really would hate to have to correct messages (or have NetNanny in front of this page! Image ).

Actually, even if your IP address changes, it contains enough info to determine your location and ISP. So even if it is not the fingerprint of the static IP- it is at least as incriminating as leaving your business card at the seen of the crime.

And in keeping with the sound advice of only saying what you would say to a persons's face: What is your problem with Grunt and Sleep, Red you wanker?

Netnanny is a piece of software that denies access to some sites containing sex, drugs, etc. (nanny stands for babysit here)

We have a wonderful commercial about it in Holland.
Some guy sits behind his computer in the livingroom while his wife is watching tv. Then suddenly the pc goes: ping.
and again and again and the guy doesn't understand... Then his wife goes: Everything okay honey?
Oh I love it...

You easily hide your IP address by going through a anonymizer or proxy. Not going to post a link here but they should not be hard to find if you do a search.

This is really sad... Red the A##HOLE has caused this. If I knew enough to help you Buck I would spend my time helping to track down his ISP.

KN, most anonymizers have shortcomings (and no, I don't know this because I use them!) I personally saw a 'mad bomber' identified while using one. Besides, if you really need to be anonymous to discuss BGII, seek help immediately Image

Anybody know how I can contact Baassie's ISP and let them know what he's doing?

You can do a WHOIS on the domain name and you might be able to get the Admins email or even a phone number. If you dont know how to do that there is one at www.networksolutions.com you can use.

Yes very true. Banner adds and slow downs. Yeah it can be traced down but that would require you going through the log files of the anonymizer's server.

I never said anything about using it here. And I hope nobody would have to.
