dual classing question

If you look in the 2nd ed. d&d book on pg 61, half elfs can be a multiclass druid/ranger. Though it notes in each individual class section that one must be neutral (52) and the other good (42). Interestingly, though it mentions that the ranger can never commit an evil act, else he automatically loses his ranger status, it does not mention neutrality as a type of action that revokes his ranger status. Would think that to be such a multiclass, you'd have to go halfway between the alignments for it to work (at least, that's how we did it in our games).

So while the game may be hardcoded to not allow it, it seems quite possible under the official rules.
