[QUOTE=werebeargoddess]I agree. The battles
were amazingly common, and astoundingly hard. But I think the thing that got me the most about Icewind Dale is the npc's. You have to create your entire party, not just one character. If you make a small party in the hopes of finding other npc's who'll join on whith your group, well, too bad. That's the group you'll have for the entire game. But I have to say, though, I rather liked the voice acting.

yeah, i started with a single fighter thinking there's npc's that you can hook up with, and dang was i surprised, then again you can make as powergaming ultimate combo party there is, the only problem is to get them to lvl 15+ the game is like bg1, you start at lvl 1 but the battles are from bg2, i mean c'mon a demon you have to kill when your like lvl 7?? well atleast it ain't too easy.. but still..
max payne 2 is another one. incredibly short i played it through in 1 day, and the bullet-time reload, although cool looking, makes fights too easy, i mean you can kill 10 guys in one bullet time run... great otherwise but i expected a lot more difficulty.. i loved the game, yet dislike it..

Keep in mind that Icewind Dale wasn't meant to be Baldur's Gate, it was meant to be a dungeon crawl. For that, it was very well done.
Same with Max Payne 2. It was well done for the story, as well as game play. I don't think that either of those can really be considered 'the worst games'.

yeah, didn't mean it like that.. just said that i expected smth else from the game that it didn't have, that was one of the things this was about, games that don't live up to your expectations/deliver what they promise..
and i loved max payne. i'm a sucker for bullet time but it was a disappointment due to the shortness and easiness of it..

Well, then, they both did deliver what they promised

Exactly. Look for games that set out to fill a certain genre, and fail miserably.

Just as long as you don't evaluate it as an RPG. Because another important thing to remember about looking at games is that company PR should never be trusted.

Well, it was a kinda impulsive purchase, I had been without internet for a couple of weeks, so I didn't know it existed, and suddenly I found a PS2 game with a BG title in a store. Of course I bought it. I was so happy I almost floated home, thus, the disapointment was even bigger.

A good reason to buy games on special...
Shenmue II
Xbox
First of, let me tell you I was so glad that I bought this game on special, it was touted as an action/adventure/RPG, with a supposedly used fighting system, but the blurb should've just read "enter the high octane world of book moving". Because seriously, that and leaf catching occupied a considerable part of the game, oh...wait, I can't forget the crate moving. Shenmue's main problems came in the form of an incredibly slow plotline, an uncreative and repetitive system of gameplay, and some of the worst misplaced music used in a game when the protaganist opened his diary, my theory is that he was sad because his writing meant a sentence occupied a page. Oh, I would also like to point out that for it's purchase I didn't just rely on company PR, for a reason beyond my limited understanding of the minds behind game reviewers, the game usually scored well, and recieved good reviews, maybe it's just me, maybe bookmoving is the new wave of the future. (Geez, I hope not)

Virus: It is Aware
PlayStation
Now this game is so bad that I had successfully banished it to the recesses of my memory, and except for a helpful reminder, I wouldn't be posting this. This game was based off the movie Virus, and I'd like to say it had a completely different plot, but there's a problem, because that infers that it has a plot
. Its main problems came in the form of a non-existent plot, poor graphics (even for the playstation) generally bad gameplay, including a horrible aiming system, bad voice acting, and being one of the shortest games I have ever played did not help it. By the way, I am not intending for my reviews of games to be aggressive or offensive in any way, but in my opinion these games are just that bad.
