its not as though it woudl be infeasable to have a spear and a shield... simply have a lighter material weapon and a somewhat smaller shield. If you think about it, its not like our dear game makes the most sense in the world, i mean a guy that can jump 12 feet in the air and get engulfed in flame and suffer minimal damage? surely he would have no trouble with a one handed spear, thouh it would need to be shorter to have more control. as historically correct as you are moltovir, this is a game, and games seem to have combat rules of their own.

Well, considering he's supposed to save the world three times...
whered you learn all of that?
In Belgium you can choose 3 different "directions" in your second year of highschool, each with a predefined lesson schema, being Ancient Languages (Greek & Latin), Ancient Languages (Latin) and Modern Languages. Modern Languages focusses more on English, French, Geography, Economics and Biology, AC(L) is somewhere between the two (with the choice of 3 hours or 5 hours maths per week) and AC(G&L) has less hours of "normal" lessons (like English or maths) per week than the rest, but as the title says, we (I chose AC(G&L)) learn ancient greek, ancient latin and the culture of the classic ages. It's really interesting, and easier than the name says
On-topic again: JesterKing has a point: have you ever played a game that is 100% realistic? I don't think that even exists.

Well, they are becoming more and more realistic every day... just look at the (sucky) Fable and R:TW.

In all fairness, in game terms the shield wielding would not make that much of a difference unless you had a high block skill, as you can benefit from the armour rating of an equipped shield, even when a two handed weapon is being wielded. And if you did have a high block skill, it negates the purpose of a spear, as the point of a spear is to keep the enemy out of striking range.
