...max. damage feat only makes sense with D10 or D12 weapons...
...and it depends on how much "luck" you have ! (btw. max. possible luck is +7 !!!)
...even with +2 or +3 luck (luck stacks from different sources - besides potions AFAIK!) and using a D4, D6 or D8 weapon - you will automatically score close to max damage !

Agree that it's only worthwhile with the heavy hitters - so, if you've only got a 1d4 weapon don't bother using it.
Agree that high luck modifiers can pretty much achieve the same thing and for far longer periods of time.
I only think of max attacks as a nice-to-have feat. Usually choose it when I don't know what feat I should take next.
