I would not like any present that I felt was given because of tradition rather then a desire to give me a certain thing. Wich means almost all christmas gifts are ruled out. It takes a very geniun person to give me a christmas gift I would appreciate.

Exactly the way i feel, getting is nice to the extenet where the gift means something to the person who recives it. Giving gifts because its traditional is simply a moot point for me.

This dosent meen that people who dont enjoy gifts are heartless, or dont understand the proccess of gift giving, simply we like to recive things that we know where given because of a relationship to the giver, not because its that time of year.

Dottie and Volk,
I agree entirely, all too often people completely lack sincerity when they give a gift, and that is wrong; I'd rather the person didn't bother.

Largely though, I'm pretty much kidding about here ;) We often hear about, or experience personally, humorous instances of gifts that just don't work, and sometimes it is simply entertaining :D

Erm.. in other words.... Lighten up...Or I'll have to drag you both to the Heathen Citadel where you will be mercilessly pelted with spam until you pronouce Fas your true lord and master :D :p ;)

I agree with the thing with giving gifts simply because of tradition. I went two years boycotting every holiday I could think of aside from just peoples birthdays and my family was horribly upset, along with my girlfriend at the time who was, well, rightously pissed I didn't get her anything for Valentines day on general priniciple. I ended up making my own holiday for her a few months later and getting her a gift, and another to give gifts for my family shortly before Easter, like a small little Christmas, they were so entirely thrilled at getting gifts out of nowhere they didn't know what to say about treating me horribly for not participating in their holidays.

I never get anything I don't for christmas...might be because I don't celebrate christmas :D My personal tradition to leave the country for Winter holiday helps to avoid ugly sweaters, bad music and pathetic home-decoration items :D

Any toys for children. There are a few relative I haven't seen for years, and they seem to insist on thinking that I'm only as old as I was when they last saw me.

DW, I reposted this in another forum, I hope you don't mind?

CE, not even for the gifts or the pleasure to see your neighbour falling off the stair when placing those annoying lights out? :D I enjoy christmas... lol... my neighbor's house looks like a strip club after sunset... :D The good thing is that I live far from the civilization, and I may always retire by climbing a small hill we have here and look at the stars... :)

A gigantic elephant sized turd wouldn't be much appreciated by anyone under thier tree.........would make you wonder what santa had been feeding his raindeer....especially if it was a ginger colour and all drippy.

These are the kinds of gifts I LOVE to get, espescially Godiva Chocolates and those little boxes with sausages and whatnot. Probably because I care little for remembering people, or much of anything for that matter, and a great deal for sausages and chocolate.

Nope, I don't remember the sender at all. All that matters is that the world cowers in fear of my Chocolatey Sausageness!!!!

Perhaps it is a chocolate-coated sausage sprinkled with icing sugar and Santa hats? :D
