my name came from when i was getting my Xbox Live Gamer Tag. I couldn't think of anything for my tag, so since my brother was getting my account, i let him choose the name. His current/favorite car is the Nissan Maxima. So as a tag he put in Maxima. That was already taken. When the
"that name has already been taken" screen came up, it had a bunch of suggestions listed under it. One of them was Ideal Maxima. He chose that one. I didn't like it at first but then i looked up the definitions of it. Then i realized what it meant and started using it for everything.

[QUOTE=Aegis]I've been using Aegis for sometime now. I think I'm getting onto 6 years. Unless I'm wrong, it is latin for 'shield', which fits perfectly with my nature as being someone who is defensive, and protective of my friends and family.

It's greek ;) Great name though

My name in my counter-strike era (due to my lack of talents that didn't last very long) was molotov, but when I started BG2 and joined Gamebanshee I realized it had to be fantasised, so I played around with some letters and came up with Moltovir. Later, in morrowind, I added a surname, so the full name is now Moltovir Gunastran.

Yesterday I read in a surname dictionary that mine (Guns, yes that's true, my name is Guns, please don't laugh ;) ) means son of Odin :) I even have a Moltovir day! (Wednesday means son-of-Odin's-day) :D

What's in a name? I'll play your game, you rogue!

Me, my name has its roots in gaming. First, there was the character Galuf from Final Fantasy 5 (which I had in the back of my mind for a while, despite not actually playing the game). Then, that name resurfaced after I start using that as the name of my Dwarf Fighter character in Icewind Dale 2. Finally, I decided "Aw heck, it sounds so good for a Dwarf, and you like Dwarves, so why not name yourself 'Galuf the Dwarf?'"

Bam! New name, new board, and the rest is history. ;)

Sorry if this thread has been posted before...

I was just curious at the SNs in general since many I found strange and thus wanted to know more about the way they were created and their general history.

The nickname 'Odie' is from my first name Ode to a Grasshopper, now long lost along with my old password :( I'm not here much anymore, so it didn't seem worth the effort to get it back.
das_hermit was the next one, it came from an irate high school associate's attempt to get revenge for a comic my best friend and I made about him called 'El Squirto'. Don't ask...anyway, das_hermit was a hermit with an afro, and being aloof by nature during high school and having an afro I liked the name. El Squirto wasn't too fond of his name though...

Mr Spanky was an extremely customized character I made for a wrestling game my cousin had while he lived with me for a while. Mr Spanky was a martial artist, and so was not only utterly inappropriate but also consistently beat the more conventional characters my cousin came up with. :D

Maharlika...

... is an old Filipino word for "noble man" or "one with royal blood."

Hey Odie... I thought that with the Spanky thing, a Monkey would not be far behind... :p :D

The character's full name was Soap on a Rope, but I needed a short name and Mr Spanky was the most humiliating I could come up with.

Did someone say...Monkey? :D Image
