ATI/Nvidea
I first played VtMB on an ATI 128Mb and then upgraded to an Nvidea 256Mb - but both are imperfect.
I still get the occasional bright pink object instead of the correct background graphic - happens most with surfaces where blood had spattered, but not too often.
I have used spybot and a security management programme to check my system and by reducing the number of progs running in the BG, the game does get more stable and less inclined to crash. the graphics probs are much more infrequent
I suggest that everybody should manually reduce the number of programmes leeching CPU-time, adjust the graphics options to reduce some little-noticed effects and hope for the best.
the game does have problems, but when you consider the extent of the environment, the number of sprites etc and the detail and compare it to RPG progs just a short while back - you can understand why it loves the resources.
help!!! serious graphic problem
Any NV3x based chips (geforce FX 5xxx series) will have problems rendering any heavy shader 2.0 spots, such as water. The NV4x chips (geforce 6xxx series) render with visual quality equal to ATI hardware, and slightly better performance per dollar. Right now there is no console string to change the render path to DX 8.1 or 8.0, so the geforce FXs will have problems. Just by a 9600, 9800, or 6600 and your pixel shader 2.0 problems will be solved.
That explanation is greatly appreciated, as I had that problem with my G-Force 5200 card, whenever any kind of water appeared in the frame. Even the water in Velvet Velour's hot tub would trigger it! Now, I understand what is going on.
Fortunately, I was able to remedy the problem by going direct to the Nvidia site and downloading the latest driver. The game runs better too, and the graphics are improved.

Nvidia should work. It's one of the ads that come up when u first run the game. I too have an Intel pentium4 2.6ghz (2 cpus), 512mb ram, Nvidia Gforce 5200, and a 4000mb page file plus directx 9.0c downloaded and installed from the directx web page. I've had all the problems, however after adjusting the page file size, changing my desktop to 800x600 32bit adjusting the game setting to the same and lowering all the graphics details to nothing, downloaded the latest drivers for everything I seemed to have rid myself of most of the problems. The only problem I have is long loading time, choppiness with the occasional skipping record effect ( usually only happens when im in the hub) Im thinking of downloading something to clock out my comp but i dont want to do damage over a game. I would like to use alcohol to create iso files onto my hardrive and create a virtual drive but when i have done this with another game (because it was choppy) when i ran the game it would read the cdrom drive and i couldnt get the exe to read the virdual drive.....reading rules....i also thought of a fixed exe but they are hard to find and unreliable. I've been trying to go to the website posted but its seems to be down at the moment or something. Ill keep on trying.
