I always go for single-classed characters as there aren't the limitations you get with using dual (lower level) and multi (restrictions), eve more so on BG2 than BG1 as the kits make up for 'missing' aspects of classes (e.g. Stalker's backstab, SwashB is practically a single class fighter/thief).
I've never really played a dual-class character for long as I prefer to play using the demihumanoid races for their various features, although I can see the 'powergame' opportunity it makes. Multi-class I've also used, got most of the way through BG1 on a halfling F/T but I dont like the restrictions you get with it and the lower levels attained; mage/thief seems the only advantageous option here (I dont use SK).

Multi-Class.
An Elven Fighter/Mage with the Bladesinger +4 amrour wielding Equaliser and Celestial fury (Dual-wield) is unstoppable. Espiecially whn he has "Epic" spells in ToB. I soloed the game with him.

Multi-class -> Kensai/Thief.

This has to be the most kick-ass character I have ever played.

AC between negative 15 to negative 18 depending on what armor Ì used Thac0 around -17/-15
More than 11 spike traps
Average damage almost 40 (Dual-wielding Longsword and Katana/scimitar)
5 attacks per round
Whatever that skills is called that allows every attack to be back-stab (This one was particularly evil)

The list goes on and on. (I am aware that most of that is from when I got to ToB, but hey, any character that turns out to kick that much ass is sweet :)

Artic I think you mean dual-class as you cannot Multi-class a kit.

But that would be cheating.

But look at him, he IS a cheater :p

I would like to add : Sorcerers are cool to play too, but since there's 2 great character mods (Tashia and Kelsey) using this class, I never played it with as my PC.

Damn it! I got multi- and dual-class wrong. I meant dual-class ofcourse

I did not use SK for that. I did however use SK for one thing, I had maxed out staff (was going for kensai/mage first) and I moved the points to longsword to benefit my change of heart.

The problem with multi and triple class for me is they're too powerful and cheesy for me. Sure it's nice to be able to backstab, stoneskin and grandmaster weapons but for me the dissadvantages makes the game even more fun since the short comings makes things harder and more rewarding. Also you are more limited in your item choice and have to make harder decisions based on the gear you want to wear.

Soloing with for example a capped mage is absolutely rewarding since it requires a person to think outside the box. Where as a thief would disarm a trap, open the lock and waltz on; you can't do that with a mage and it makes it more rewarding to work out clever little ways to get around things like that.

Where as a fighter/mage would stoneskin and bash into submission a mage would have to run around like a little girl using slings and darts.

~

One of my most memorable games was with a solo sorceror and as soon as I left Chateau Irenicus I decided to attack the party upstairs in the Seven Dales with no spells memorised!

I ran around the whole of the Promenade trying to kill Menacar Pebble with a sling and bullets, which took maybe an hour of real time!

To overcome the game's difficulties using only your wits and gaming ability does it for me, not being a swiss pocket knife.

So far...

So far, I seem to like the Fighter/Cleric combo. I figure that down the line, I usually end up with 2 Mage/Thief combos for a while. I haven't explored all the combos yet, but in time I will try as many of them as I can stand.

By the way, how do you create your own specialty classes? Please don't laugh too hard at that question...I'm still a newbie to this type of PC game.

what do you mean your own specialty class?

in BG2 you cannot create a class unless you make a mod, which can be sort of difficult.

I guess that is what I meant...make a mod to create my own class. ( Don't mind my ignorance...I'm still new at this.) First of all, what is a mod? Let's start from there. I want to learn as much as possible to maximize my playing experience. Thanks![QUOTE=Raumoheru]what do you mean your own specialty class?

A mod is a game modification. It can be something to fix bugs, to improve AI, to tweak monsters and NPCs, etc. Mods can also add new things to the game (Playable Characters, etc.).

i like to play as an assassin just for fun.

The best char i played was a Ranger/Cleric great spells (both druid IRON SKIN! and cleric Animate Death and Blade Barrier) and with all the nice flails (FoA) warhamers and maces in the game u don't even miss the swords or bows.
I played the game twice with one and both of the games he rocked!

As I become more skilled in handling my characters, I will try the mods. For right now though, I just found out that there are patches that I need to download to fix any 'bugs' that I have been having problems with (refer to discussion in SYM) before I try any mods. Thanks for the info. I hope it will enhance my game.

I would suggest you to add mods by small groups. Here's what I would install if I were you :

- BG2 Official Patch
- Baldurdash Fixpack (Great mod, it fixes alot of bugs)
- Unfinished Business (Great mod, add new quests, kits and a few fixes. Just install whatever component fit you.)
- Banter Pack (Really good mod, it'll add banters between Bioware NPCs!)
- BG2 Refinements (Good mod, choose your components)
