this is wut im talking about... all you guys are putting 2 much emphasis and techique in "guessing". I still stand by that Item Randomness blows. It gets annoying, and as for replay value, sure it adds some, but who wants to replay just because they didnt get a certain gun, or a certain robe!! you've got to be kidding me!!! I wish were items that were set, certain weapons, robes... armour, but nooo.. Obsidian I guess cant be blamed, they had a year and a half to finish this game up, not much time, but still. Item Randomness is stupid. Replay for Character development, story, etc, sure... but for items?! HAH!
i really don't mind it all that much...

the incredible mods and upgrades system can turn a mediocre weapon, like the easy to make disrupter rifle, almost the most powerful rifle in the game...

Each to their own. Some games are very specific about what you'll find everywhere. Others, like Divine Divinity, deliberately have a huge random range which can really change the game. Most RPGs are somewhat in the middle.

I sort of like the idea of random items, but I find it to be really very flawed in this game. I find that it's either not at all random, or just ridiculously wrong. For example:

NOT AT ALL RANDOM
There's a thread about people getting the same lightsaber colors over and over again. The example given was purple (that was the case with me), and other people said all they got was yellow. I just started a new game, and while still on Peragus, I have picked up 6 Bio-Restorative Underlays. I only have 1 thing of ARMOR so far! It's like the item generator is saying "Aw jesus, he needs another item? Screw it, just give him the same thing he got last time and hope he gets the message!" I could rationalize this by saying "Well, I guess all the droids come equiped with the same armor underlay," except that then I run into the other problem I have.

RIDICULOUSLY WRONG
Why do all these spider-like droids have human-shaped armor underlays? Doesn't make a bit of sense. Or why is a camp full of mandolorians filled with Echani goods? (I found mandolorian stuff littered all over the world, except for with the mandolorians) My prize for winning the dualing circle was a big clumbsy axe. I don't remember them saying "And you can win the holiest of Mandolorian symbols, the sacred axe of some other species!"

NOT AT ALL RANDOM AND RIDICULOUSLY WRONG
I think the worst was that I finished the game with 3 sets of Exar Kun's Battle Armor. I apparently had his armor, his mom's armor, and his identical cousins armor. I wish the description had said This is the famous armor that Exar Kun wore on Tuesdays or perhaps Exar Kun wore this armor with his red pants because his other armor clashed horribly. I mean, is it too hard to seperate out some items as unique and just eliminate them from the pool after you get them once?

I understand people who support the idea. I like the idea too. I just think that it's horribly flawed. Maybe they'll fix it with a patch, or somebody can make a mod that puts droid stuff on droids, and mandolorian stuff with mandolorians. As it is now though, I give it two big thumbs down.

Well, yes. This is kinda reminding me of the FF series, but I don't really care. Otherwise you wouldn't be getting much stuff on some parts of the game, which would also suck. So I don't really care if I find a repeating rifle on some kind of beast.

NB, I think random items are great. I don't exploit it, I'm just happy when I get something cool and I make the rest on my own.

Yeah, I wish it wasn't feast or famine. My first character had a ton of good loot. My second character had mediocre loot so the only saving grace was that since he was male, one could do the infinit Handmaiden exploit to get credits and components.

Obi-Wan-Evan weapon stealer!(dun dun dun!)

I did the exact same thing Evan,I started out the first time using vibroblades and the second time around I found a gammorean war axe in the underground military base on telos(in the container in the tank droid room)and used that till my lightsaber, and when I got my lightsaber I was tempted to dual wield the war axe and lightsaber. :D

I think overal the item randomness was kinda cool, but they should make some of better weapons, like solari crystals, more stable so it isnt as much luck as to how well you do in the game.

I like the idea of random items in containers and finding on corpses etc, but I think merchants should have the same stuff. Just makes it easier.

There's a certain amount of randomness whether or not the items are "locked in". For instance, my current save game I'm standing next to a container that I know has a lightsaber. (Or rather Mira is standing next to it wearing the dancer's outfit, but that's beside the point).

Anyway, after several reloads the saber inside has switched back and forth from from short to double and from green to yellow. Just those two variables though.

I believe contents of containers only change (much) when you exit and re-enter the area it is in, not when you open and close the container.
