It's just the hero save trick.

yeah just another Hero Save jobby...
take the Hobbe Cave Quest... before you speak to "Grandma" in the Rose Cottage, dig up the Silver Key in the mud patch, whack down the brambles to a Chest containing 500 Gold, then Hero Save...
reload the Hero Save and repeat as needed! only worth it if you're very short of cash at the beginning of the game and you can't be arsed to find all of the Silver Keys...
