i thought they were having liscence trouble...
i would like to see waterdeep. and heaven, as opposed to hell. Perhaps some entirley new places of the coast as well...a new continant! New creatures, towns, races, cities, everything! then, faeruen(sp) and this...new continant, could be linked, through some massive conspiracy, involving amn and baldurs gate, and the main city on the new continant, just...oooh! endless possibilities

I'd love to see Waterdeep too but more than anything I'd like to see it set somewhere near Shadowdale, not necessarily the place itself, but close enough that the story would include Elminster, Storm Silverhand and the (retired) Knights of Shadowdale. They were always my favorite characters from the Forgotten Realms novels (Storm especially) and it'd be heaven on Earth if I could interact with them in the game.

Title:- BG3 - The lost treasures of Bhaal.

History Section Number 1:- <Insert fleshy history here, containing Bhaal, his children the Bhaalspawn, the Bhaalspawn duels and the victorious Bhaalspawn.> This is BG1 and BG2.

History Section Number 2:- <Elaborate on the victorious Bhaalspawn, party members. This history section should draw significant attention to items interacted with by the Bhaalspawn (weapons, equipment, etc).> This is you in BG1 and BG2

Storyline:- Centuries later....The bhaalspawn duels have become legend, the participants, the stories, and to many the most important topic of the valuable treasures of swords, shields, and equipment which were used in these duels.

Many items that were touched by the Bhaalspawn have been recovered and are immensly valuable not to mention powerful. However the bhaalspawn's most prized items were lost to history when the victorious Bhaalspawn destroyed the entrance to his pocket-plane, banishing everything within it to limbo.

Many powerful mages have tried to create portals which they can use to re-open the pocket-plane and recover the treasures. However the Lord of Murder and his spawn don't take kindly to tomb robbers and no-one has been able to gain access to the plane.

Rumours circulate that these treasures are not only the most valuable artifacts Faerun has ever seen, but they are the most powerful too. Each artifact is said to be embroided with blood, the essence of Bhaal and his Bhaalspawn, rendering them all insanely powerful and destructive. All items used together is said to enable the wielder the ability to polymorph into the victorious Bhaalspawn themselves.

Numerous factions have been established in all corners of Faerun and it's planes. These factions are hell bent on recovering these artifacts. Some factions want the power of the items, some factions want to destroy the artifacts in the hope that they can never be used for evil. Some simply want to become rich. Whatever their intentions all factions desperately seek the artifacts of Bhaalspawn and will stop at nothing to get them.

BG3 asks you to create your character and choose your faction.

Gameplay Chapter 1:-
The character is assigned a party by their faction of which the character can choose which classes they want to accompany them, or the character is slotted into a party which the faction provides. The char. can always betray the faction and join up with a different faction and hence a different party, and likewise party comrades can do the same. If the char. doesn't agree with this rest of the party in allying with another faction for instance, they may find themselves going solo for a time.

In this chapter the mission is to get some information on the lost pocket-plane. A good way to start would be to have the party ally with some other factions and share some information. From this information we could say that the pocket-plane has degraded over the years, and now many factions believe that it now consists of many sub-pocket-planes. Each sub-pocket plane contains 1 artifact, and each sub-pocket-plane needs 2 keys. 1 key is the master key which opened the original pocket plane (of which there is only 1 key...all factions would duel for this key at all times...which BTW needs to be found in the first place...Cespenar might have it for instance..or at least know how to get it). The other key (whatever or whoever that may be) is different for every sub-pocket plane. This means that if six factions had the corresponding key to six sub-pocket planes, none of them could open their sub-pocket plane without the master key. If one faction had the master key, they could only open one sub-pocket plane, and would have to kill or steal or buy for the other five keys. Similarly the other five factions are looking to acquire the master key.

All other Chapters roll on from this information....with plot twists, faction betrayals, faction alliances, character betrayals, sub-quests, inside information and so-on and so-forth. All the while the game is driving forward with messages of some faction having one key and another having a different key.

Guest appearances from Kangaxx (who's skull is a key to one sub-pocket plane...and you just know he's not going to jump into your backpack without a fight). That silver dragon (Adalon?) whose eggs have hatched and one of the dragons offspring is tainted with Bhaalspawn essence (because the Bhaalspawn touched the eggs).

and so on and so forth.

Because of all the different factions involved, there would be great scope for settings and locations.

I read that it'd had been leaked from somewhere during a developer brainstorm meeting...The notes above were apparently one of the hot ideas.

Personally I think it sounds like a great idea...sort of Indiana Jones meets RPG.

I agree. I hope they stay with the Infinite Engine thing, as its very effective.

Sounds interesting. That definitely would bring a new kind of replay modus to the game, one perhaps even bigger than the one's from BG 1 and 2, which already had a quite big one, since you could at least play it through twice, as good & as evil, and you had so many different class types.
But just out of curiosity: where excactly did you read it? In some magazine or on the internet? (weblink?)

ah you know what you're probably right, shows how much attention I was paying in that game.

The whole faction idea sounds promising, would be interesting if you come into frequent and violent contact with simular parties from other factions. How solid is that info?

That'd be the idea...Factions allying with each other, factions battling for keys against each other.

Don't know how solid the idea is to be honest...after much trying I can't source where I read it.

I would doubt it is "solid" - infact I'd think it would be mostly speculations and rumors. Otherwise, there would be much more hype about a possible BG3 if some sort of "beliveable" rumors infact existed.

No. If we go to Kara-tur, it is so I can kill whatever relatives Yoshimo has...stupid little thing.

proof?

btw anyone here have actual proof of that is BGIII in works? cos i find it most unlikely that something like that may be happening... plus that Interplay shut down Black Isle so i think they didnt have really some future plans for making the BGIII. And also the storyline in whole BG series is completly sealed by the end of ToB (you discover your heritage and destiny which was the whole purpose of the story) so where to continue?

just wandering... :)

cheers,
Orinn

Orinn -

The original announcement was made over a year ago in PC Gamer, and there has been no official talk of the game since. See this thread for more info. I am inclined to think that BG3 is not currently under production anywhere, and may not ever be produced. There is, however, substantial interest in the game, and it would be sad not to see it be created.

This thread, for example, has been dedicated to a discussion of the possible story and settings that might be seen in a BG3. There has been some good suggestions (and some not-so-applicable ones), and I would hope that Atari or any other game developer has been reading this and the other threads in the forum.
I read somewhere that BG3 takes place several decades before BG1.
If they keep up the story line, would that make you Bhall?

Or maybe, they'll put you in as Gorian? Then you can meet Bhall, then rescue the hero (or heroein) of the other games!
