Okay, go on, then  ;)

So, about the IWD2/BG2 comparison... There's just no way to compare them ;) Baldur's Gate II is THE adventure, nothing I've seen since then are worthy in my eyes to mention it on the same page.

However, if you put aside the NPC interaction (which adds a LOT to the BG series), IWD is just as entertaining and enjoyable, imho. I like the puzzles and scenes in IWD, sometimes they easily exceed those of BG2 (the Ice Temple looks much better than the Docks, eg.). Anyway, since BG has NPC interaction included, that makes it win the "battle", no doubt. The story line is obviously better and more detailed, too.

I couldn't have said it better myself Brynn. BG series will always be the best for me too cause I started from them. I don't know how would I think about them if I had started from IWD2 cause it is graphically superior and I'm a graphical person cause I'm gonna be a designer soon. Although usually I put the atmosphere over the craphics in RPG. NWN would be cooler to look at but I still like IWD2 more. So praise IWD2 for it's qualities. A great combination of hacking and roleplay :)

mod

what would be really cool would be if they made a mod to improve iw2 with roleplaying. I've been trying to use dale keeper to improve it, and also the sort of gameplay i was talking about when i started this post. It doesnt really work that well but its better than nothing. Am i the only one like this? I just love being able to create characters with a certain feel. right now my party looks like this:

Amazon style Female Dancer (bard/monk)

Drow Female Handmaiden of lolth, Assasin (priestess of talos, Rogue)

Male Witch Doctor style Wild mage (sorceror/(maybe multiclass to druid))

Viking style Male Beserker (light armoured barbarian w/ great weapon)

Red Indian Female Beast Master (Ranger/Druid with great sword) with

WAR DOG, creatied using dale keeper to look like a war dog. class fighter.

I'm working on biographies for all of them and am stuk for ideas. what characters do u guys like to identify with?

I'm quite narrow-minded with my character (the leader is ALWAYS the same) : she has to be a superintelligent, chaotic good HUMAN mage with high Charsima :) No matter what UPP says, I just stick to these attributes :D The rest of the chars in my present party are for "testing", dwarf fighter, sorcerer (to be compared with the mage), a druid (I've never palyed one) with that long red-haired girl's portrait (look so cool, I created a whole char just to use that pic), aaand... yes, a cleric, which is also a bit "closer" to me than the rest.

kl characters. i really like druids for some weird roleplaying reasons. fighters are boring. so are wizards (only like 10 spells. BOOOORING). And to some extent rogues and rangers. I love flaming sorcerors, druids leading an army of wild things, barbarians crashing into the ranks with a dirty great axe, clerics leading a horde of undead, and monks running around all over the place simply because they look funny. Bards are also very kool. Also, i like having weird mixes. Orc druids and sorcerors, drow barbarians and the rest. I like giving my characters a theme, like beserk viking barbarians running into battle after working himself into a frenzy and getting drunk. Or Voodoo style witch doctors conjuring up all sorts of stuff. I only get stuck when it comes to writing biographies. Theyre hard. And i type to much. I'll stop now.

Anyone called for a weird bio???

Fancy this.

A lovley landscape, peaceful people laboring to make their day, dirty litte children playing on the fields.
All of a sudden, rushing in like a thunderstorm on a hot sommers day, a band of mercenaries afflict the place. Raping, slaugthering, burning....

After the dust had settled only a little girl remained, sitting next to the remains of her former home, the blood of her parents dripping of her innocent hands.

She shooks her head to get rid of the reminiscence of the past and looks down to her not so innocent hands. More blood is on them, not spilled by others but herself.

Like bubbles more memories of her life sneaked up from the back of mer mind.
At all times her good looks had saved her the day, but not always on her terms. But those who abused her in one way or the other, they were no more

The mercenaries were quite satisfied with the destruction they caused and took the little girl with them, making her perform and sing to their pleasure. The leader of the pack was a charismatic man, a sorcerer; she begann to beguile him and secretly learned the arcane ways in a rude manner because of not beeing properly taught. In the years to come she managed to channel the mystic energies through her songs.

On a faithful day her lover and MASTER caught her while spying on his powerful spells and the punishment was severe: The final lesson in 'each to his own' was given to her, when she was sold into slavery.

After overcoming her slave bonds she escaped into the night, but not before cutting the throats of those who caused her nearly endless pain. She roamed from town to town, begging, thieving, seducing, meancing and sometimes killing. She became a singing assassin known as

The Wailing Virgin

Char is female (obvious) bard(26)/fighter(4) concentrating on dual short swords (specialisation from fighter) and necromancy (wail of banshee), alignment is neutral evil

There is the roleplaying, act accordingly

dont like bit about being an orphan-kinda cliche. but otherwise its kool. got anymore like it, cos that'd be kool? My party is coming along nicely right now. i like using the Baldurs gate portraits, but does anyone know any other places besides sorcerors place where i can get some more. soundsets might be kool too. Anyway ive got my lovely pet panther too which makes playing very fun just watching him tear through ranks of goblins.

For my money, Morrowind is the bext for roleplaying, largely because of the enormous number of plugins available, many of which do nothing but add roleplaying possibilities to the game. On the other hand, though I enjoyed Morrowind, I found is SO non-linear that I got totally bogged down in inumerable side-quests.

yeh me too

i tried morrowind for a while but the expansions wouldnt work which made me peeved. and also although the world was kool, i didnt really understand it and found the gameplay too dull-just run at the monster and press attack until its dead. no spells or anything . so i returned it.

See sticky usefull links.

There site wich has 1000+ portraits. It will just take few clicks to be able to see them.

If you have downloaded soundsets from Sorcerers palce there realy isn't much of them left. Atleast not extremely good ones.

My fafourite character would be Tiefling paladin. He is good hearted even that he accidentally just is fooling around.

thanks

i got some really kool protraits from those places so thanks! but im sort of stuck with some of them. I searched through that site but it took soooo long so i gave up eventually. i got an Aerie portrait from BG2 for my druid, and a Sarevok one (again BG2) for my mage, but i still need some more. All the barbarian ones i found were really tame, and i was looking for a raging frothing beserker type. I couldnt find a good portrait for my Amazon dancer. I was looking for a BG2 type portrait with a zoom in on the face but all i could find was stuff that zoomed in on the womens chest or crotch. kinda a bit 2 graphic really. The drow one i found was okay, a sort of drow Aerie, but not really what i was looking for. Finally, and heres a hard one, i couldnt find a portrait for my druids pet jaguar. I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for any of those portraits. The jaguar doesnt have to be a jaguar. Any animal is good. U guys hav been so helpful so far with this roleplaying thing i was hoping you could help out a bit more. Please? Pretty Please?
Otherwise my party has been doing quite well. I managed to get through Targos and am now causing all kinds of havoc in town. Firtha insulted my druid so i set the wild cat on her. My drow decided to enslave viera and use her for her own purposes. I've picked pockets, raided abandoned houses, and looted corpses for all kinds of treasure. Up in the palisade ive been scaring the troops with some 'motivational tactics'. Some of firtha's cats met a nasty end when they got in my way. I like being evil

soz question (again)

for my cleric of mask/rogue, what level do clerics stop gaining spells? not just spell casting levels but spells themselves.

by ishuman
Clerics get 9th level spells at levl 17 and gain # of spells per day from there on. Its all in the manual you know.

Ammama, have a look at the class description, you'll find some charts there, one of them shows how many spells/lvl can a cleric cast.

I'm desperate to find those actor portraits for you, they're the best I've ever seen! Gimme a little time :)

On the original topic, IWD2 is a rather linear game and it makes no difference if an evil party does good things or a good party does evil things. Role Playing for me wouldn't do much for my gaming experience. So I go the ultimate evil way and play for experience. My party loves, for example, letting the good guys think they've won (exp gained for quests) then killing them (not always a good idea).

The other thing is I can give a story for an almost UPP party.

Simple version, Priestess of Lolth, her brother(wizard/thief), her mate(sorcerer), a deep gnome slave which they love to torture by putting him into danger. The slave learns a little thieving skills, the power of medition in escaping danger and either magic or prayer for added protection. Thus you have either a priest and three wizards or two priests and two wizards with a DG decoy. The trick is adding druid levels to a drow priestess and making a story fit.

RE: the BG vs IWD thing, BG beats IWD hands down. But both lose out to Planescape: Torment. It's a much deeper experience, with a more thought out story, clever plotlines, immersive dialogues, real apportunity to play through the game in multiple play styles depending on how you develop your character (Better than was implemented in the BG series even) and has an interesting, if somewhat darker, atmosphere about it that makes it stand out above the common variety game world.

I've enjoyed BG extensivly, played it multiple times, and still think it's one of the best games around, but it still didn't suck me into the gameworld the way PS:T did. It was one of the most pleasurable experiences I've ever had gaming.

As far as IWD goes, I always considered it more hack n slash than role playing anyway. The games are far too linear, and the interactions with characters are just for moving the plot forward.

MW is another game I don't particularly love. When I first got it, I got sucked into the visuals for awhile, and played constantly, but keep finding myself bored after a couple days play anymore. It's just not my thing I suppose.
