You never really need two mages once you have Edwin's skills...
True, but one of the joys of replaying BG2 is trying different, unusual party configurations that offer a challenge: all fighters, all clerics, all mages, etc.

Under normal games I agree that Edwin is all you need but for Tactics I wanted to be safe and have a backup mage, plus Nalia is good enough to disarm most traps. It's really a fun group. I've been tempted to drop Jaheira for Viconia so I would have 3 good and 3 evils.

True... my friend used this magical-heavy party to go through BG2
- PC (Mage/Cleric)
- Kelsey
- Tashia
- Tsunjatha
- Edwin
- Yoshimo -> Imoen
He says it was though as hell, but fun too!
Which NPC do you take in ToB?
Let's say a high level fighter with the potential to dual to thief or mage, if he wasn't such a good fighter.
Guess I increase mid bid to 1,5 to 4,5 and make him join my char as soon as I get to ToB. Soloing SoA was interesting enough so far for my first attempt, guess I'll "dual" ToB.
