Sorry for the lack of clarity. Ice hockey it is.

Living in New York City I am amazed by the vast number of sports that people can play:

-There is a league for almost any team sport- Basketball and Baseball are popular, but Rugby, Cricket, and even Hurling (a Gaelic game) have leagues
-There are also venues for almost any individual sport- fencing, running, biking, all kinds of martial arts, shooting, poker (if you think cards are a sport)... anything.

I'm constantly amazed by the varitey of sports to play and the huge number of people who play them- everyone here seems to play something on a weekly basis, whether it is training for triathalons or going bowling.

Keep in mind folks that Soccer is a British term and was used in England until other countries started calling it football. Now they get all snotty and act like it's an American term. :D

WTH? No rugger fans? Best game in the world- fast, tactical and -best of all- the chance to smash someone to the ground!

The question is: is it big in your country?
Is it?

Rugby is a very good sport but in america, unfourtunately, it isn't that big of a sport. I enjoy rugby, I haven't played it in a while though.

Er...yes, actually. Rugby is probably the second biggest sport especially in the Northwest where I live. That's rugby league mind you, not rugby union- a sport for nancy boys if ever there was one.

Ah, I remembered- from the back of a hockey shirt I saw once:

Football is played by boys, rugby is played by men, hockey is played by animals.

I like rugby, but as mentioned before, it is very unrepresented in the US, espescially the south. My area of Iowa soccer was popular. I used to manage an indoor soccer team. That was great fun.

I find it sad that this seems to be the dominating view nowdays. Imo ice hockey is at its best when there are no fights at all, only highly technical play.

That depends to me. If I'm watching hockey for the Olympics or Stanley Cup I expect sportsmanlike behavior. If it is a regular NHL game that I'm watching for fun, I expect to be entertained, whatever it takes.
