you will find your tanks surrounded by enemies in more then one battle, no matter how you act
...at least if you want to keep the enemies away from your casters!
...and you will be more then happy (in normal game / until you get WoB) that you can throw DBFB in the enemy crowd without your own tanks getting hit!
the trick is not just SR alone - also the rogue or monk levels to get evasion combined with very good reflex saves!
...and if you use spellswords as tanks like I do - you also have MI and this way you are absolutely invulnerable to all area effect spells no matter how casts them !!!

and don't forget a good build sorc will do tons of damage even with normal fireballs in the normal game...
...it's more then easy to kill your own tanks this way - even worse with DBFB as you don't exactly know when they explode and where your tanks are when they explode...
...so you can have a much easier live if you just use drows with monk or rogue levels and maxed DEX as tanks!
...and every non SR-PC should at least have a few MI available in case of emergency!
Again great advices, but why not dex for Bard/druid? helps in archery and armor class. And str is 8 so I guess it cannot be lowered... con is 12 so she wont have so high hp, but if i lower that stat then she wont have even that?
wouldn't use this one as an archer!
...a bard should just sing and cast and a druid should just cast!
...as your bard has MI you can ignore the armor class
- if you get low HP the druid can heal himself or just shapeshift
- if you get involved in melee you can run or shapeshift!
I would put this PC well protected in the middle of your group and use the free stats to max CHA (bard), WIS (druid) & INT (bard)
...btw. you get enough HP from being druid (8) / bard (6) you don't need the one extra HP from +2 CON and you have enough SP for concentration and enough buffs to protect yourself!
...but I won't go to low on STR - cause it could be a pain in the a$$ if you can't carry anything (the only reason to have some STR for this build!)
...as you should have high CHA and WIS for this PC anyway you just can max INT also (btw. you get expertise - very helpfull in the early game!) and build the best speaker possible!
maxed boni on all speaking skills, tons of SP to max all speaking skills *and* most other skills no other PC has the SP for (alchemy, concentration, knowledge arcana, wilderness lore)!
I got the point earlier on
Those are strategic options IMO... Surely usable in some situations, but if some of my drows, who are not in the front line, are in that situation it is because I´ve made a mistake in strategy, which happens vary rarely
...hope someone has a fire extinguisher for your barb in the off-hand !
2 or 3 fireballs will certainly kill him (if you have a good sorc build) or you aim that way that you don't hit him and only be able to target 1/3 of the enemies surrounding him!
...or you just don't cast the final fireball - disadvantage: you can't finish off all those near death enemies around your barb - so they keep hacking on him until you have killed one after the other!
at least until you get WoB you have to rely on damage based spells and after you get it the game gets quite boring - if you have a good build sorc

Good points there
Maybe that evasion skill from the rogue levels helps a bit...
Dunno.... Maybe ill add some levels of cleric and lower those barb levels to give him some prot. spells and which of the races is best for this role as I´m not being so confident about half orc?

for a barb tank I would definetly add some arcane levels to get MI and blur!
maybe a specialist wizard (for extra spells) who can get: MI, blur, blink and a few rogue levels
...but on the other hand you should max out barb for DR (damage resitance)!
so best could be: drow male - barb 23 (DR 5) - rogue 3 - wiz (illus.) 4
or barb 20 (DR 4) - rogue 5 - wiz (illus.) 5
divine levels won't help much - cause you really need MI for your tank!

What about the armor.... should I use Chain Of Drakkas for him also... Soon all of my chars are drows with Drakkas
And i also should increase int or cha to obtain those spells and that means that I´ve to lower some abilities that are important to him as well.
What about the armor.... should I use Chain Of Drakkas for him also... Soon all of my chars are drows with Drakkas Is MI really so useful... AFAIK it can only take damage once and then it disappears... what use is that against tougher enemies? I mean one Magic missile for example from enemy spell caster and my MI is gone?
And i also should increase int or cha to obtain those spells and that means that I´ve to lower some abilities that are important to him as well.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
you will find Drakkas that late in the game that you shouldn't plan any PC to use it - besides you go for HOF!
there are several very good light armors with a low spell-failure percentage!
...and shields are scrap in IWD2 so use a 2-handed weapon or use 2 weapons!
...this way you also avoid the shield mali!
...and 10% or 15% spell failure aren't that big problem - besides there is a feat called armored arcana!
MI is definetly the best defensive spell available!
it gives you up to 8 images - and each must be hit before your PC gets hit!
...btw. you won't get hit by to many MM in IWD2 - for some reasons it's not the favoured enemy caster spell!
...so MI makes your PC invulnerable to up to 8(!) hits - with a good AC this makes you invulnerable for several rounds and is a sure save against area effect spells (for some reasons that I don't understand) and you can recast it when you are low on images in no time!
...believe me - especially in HOF (where monsters deals tons of damage per hit) MI is a must for a tank!!!
...if you don't want to use a drow you will be low on stats...
...but 13 INT is enough - this gives you access to level 3 spells (you won't need more) and expertise!
