If going to the left doesn't work, then don't do it. There's plenty of time for a hasted character to go to the right and get to the ferry-man.
If you have a couple of rounds left by the time you get to the embassy, then you have time enough to kill her. Just focus on taking her out of commission first before you kill the rest of the creatures.

Oswald, what are you doing in Dragon's Eye?

As Dedigan says, there should be no problem to get to her in time if you use Haste. I always went to the right, and it worked. You just have to focus on her only, no time to deal with the other until she's dead.

I always rush to her and try to cast Otiluke's Resilient Sphere on her, so she can't cast anything. Then I destroy any enemies surrounding her and wait for it to wear off. Then I rush to get rid of her spell protections and then just hack at her and hope I kill her in time. Running from the beginning of the Auto Save is a real help. Don't stop for a minute, b/c sometimes it's those extra few seconds you need to kill her before she casts her spell.
