I don't think we'll find out for sure until the consoles themselves come out. You can hear thousands and thousands of rumors, but you can never tell whether or not they're true. As long as you don't hear it from SONY and/or Microsoft, you shouldn't believe it.

I think it will continue on as before. PS3 will be better for sports gamers and certain games, and XBox360 will be better for shooters. The problem is discovering which will be better for the games they split more evenly, like RPGs and racing games. Only time will tell...

I personally think xpox was a million times better than ps2 espescially after the gaming industry realized it and started making games for it.

XBox360 is much more sreamlines and can sit flat or upright to answer someone's question earlier.

We're in this modern technocratic world where small is sexy ;)
I've used this argument many times, to very little effect. It should cover interpersonal relations as well as fashion, right?
:D

Myself, I'll likely be more a PS3 person, simply because a lot of the games I'm interested in are PS games, and outside of a couple of titles, Xbox hasn't done much to sway my interest.

I read somewhere that with the 360 oyu can't play ALL original xbox games, whereas with the ps3 you can play ALL ps2 (and ps1 I think too) games.

However, I'm a PC-freak... I wont be buying either ps3 or 360

@BS, which titles do you like that won't be on the box?

@Az, I haven't heard that yet but if you know where you heard it I'd love to know.
aww but it's so nice and who's gonna steal that hump of lumb that weighs about 10pounds.. :p
Actually, in my hometown there were 2 kids who tried to steal PS2 box. Workers and security guys watched several minutes when those kids tried to carry big box (IIRC the box included PS2, several games and other extra stuff) out from the shop, and even trying to look innocents (sp?). Well, they never successed (how come? :D ), and the workers still laugh when they think about that situation.

I don't believe that, you mind backing that up with evidence?

No I think its true I'm afraid... one of the next gen consoles (either PS3 or XBOX not sure) hasn't got full backwards compatibility... MS/Sony are only making certain titles compatible.

Go figure

well it was over at http://www.radioactivepanda.com some weeks ago, but they seem to delete their old news posts so I can't prove it, sorry :(

I've been reading discussions about backwards-compatibility on some other forums, and Sony have said that the PS3 will be backwards compatible with the previous two consoles. the PS2 managed full backwards compatibility (except for the metal gear solid add-on) despite being rather different on the inside, so I'd believe them.

Microsoft have said that it would be able to play the best-selling titles from the Xbox, although no-one is sure what exactly they mean. there are rumors that the most popular Xbox games will be recompiled and re-released to work on either console, but the consensus seems to be that it will certainly emulate the Xbox well enough to play the best selling titles, although there may be some compatibility issues with others.

evidence:
"At launch, Xbox 360 will be backward compatible with the top Xbox games," Xbox PR manager Michael Wolf told GamesIndustry.biz today. "Our goal is to have every Xbox game work on Xbox 360. You will NOT need to purchase a new 'version' - your original games will work on Xbox 360."

Sony and Nintendo have already confirmed that their next-gen consoles - the PS3 and Revolution - will play all the games in their respective back catalogues, offering consumers a huge choice of titles at launch.

The games range at launch argument, I feel is mainly moot. Fair enough, you don't want to buy a new console and be gameless, but the games will be wasted on a next-gen console, and I'm pretty sure that most buyers at launch of a PS3/XB360 will already own the previous consonle anyway.
