The only spot I could find where I could hit him is when I was standing in the doorway to the room with the fire spouts. I was doing very poor damage with my elven longbow, so after awhile I gave up just to get it over with stepped in and started the spawn cycle there. I heard he is worth 790,000 exps or so.

I killed the first Elder Kyusho for a whopping 669.900 XP.
As for killing the Banshee here is a simple trick that worked for me. As you leave the first room and walk down the stairs, don't enter the new room but stand to the left of the doorway (this protects you from attacks). First an elven ghost will walk through (easy kill) followed by the banshee.
As soon as she is next to you hit her with an ice spell and then just continue to hit her with your weapon. In the small corridor she can't move nor, can she effectively use her scream. Easy kill even for a Level 10 mage not that strong in combat.
Just make sure you are facing her across the width of the corridor.

300,000 exp for a dragon?! 30,000 for a minotaur?! I dunno what's going on here, but I'm lucky to get 180 for a dragon and 20 for a minotaur. Granted, I got almost 200 for my first dragon, but it's amazing if I get even 1000 or 2000 thousand exp above 170,000 for a dragon any more.
I like the churners, I get ~ 10,000 for the regulars and about 30,000 for the rock churners, but that's it. I think I was getting more in my first game.
Anybody have any idea what's going on?

A little extra something I noticed that may seriously be worth investigating.
I started a female elf adept character and opened that first untrapped chest near the campfire, got lucky and recieved an elven spear. Then took her over to the shacks and used that as a base for letting her gain experience and so on, using that spear, as well as a throwing dagger that I got from a thief as my weapons. FIrst I concentrated on INT and got it to 40. Then I concentrated on skills and my remaining stats. With level 3 in lt pole weapons, I found I would need a bit over 13k in order to get level 4, so I left it alone for a while. LAter on, I glanced at it while looking at my skills while in the sewers. I found that now I needed less than 10k. DO note, I had not added to my INT (still at 40).
I suspect that by using a skill, it is possible to make it easier to advance as you gain advancement points in that specific skill. This is at least true with the weapon skills. I thought originally that there was a bug in the game as with other characters, I would ahve a skill actually gain levels and would be higher than it should be (like med. weapons being 8, with lt. weapons being still only 5). SO, it is safe to assume that if you have a favorite set of equipment, it pays to use that type of weapons as much as possible, since you will gain in it even without actively putting points into the skill.
Another note: Play hard level. Yes, we all know you gain more experience naturally. But, I think that it may negate the so called "lessening" of experience that some of you have apparently had. FOr example, someone would gain 200k for a drake, only to gain 170k later on with another drake. I know that I would train with the moonbeasts, and ahve always earned around 25k for each one.
Finally, I also believe that perhaps the opponents could have magic limits as well. While fighting the banshee, I noticed that originally, she will cast that nasty attack spell all the time, perhaps 4-5 times per minute. But, as the battle progressed, she would dramatically stop casting the spell, and she will cast it perhaps once ever 1-2 minutes. I suspect that the monsters merely have a very high number of charges fo their spell attacks.

As far as using a weapon increasing your skill.... I don't know about that. I have, I believe, found that some things don't take effect till after a save. At least I'm 90% sure I've seen this with bargin. Where something cost one price then after a save the price had gone down. But anyhow...
It seems to me the Dragon that are nesting are worth more then the ones that spawn after you've killed the nesting ones. At least that was my impression the first time through. I'll be checking that soon

.The ones that spawn come in 2 flavors for sure. The 180,000 flavor and the the more juicy 230,000 (aprox). Everything set at normal.
Just moments ago I killed the banshee and what Hounder is saying about her is correct. They seems they run out of spells. D

Sorry I did'nt quote the orginial message. Earlier someone wrote about the arena, and selling the equipment recovered after the fight:
I sell the mace in Arindale for 3,000 or so. My merchant skill is only 4
I sell the sword and ax in Skuldoon. Saving room for 18 maces for the Moon Bridge Trip back to Arindale. More money and after the 40 or 50 fights it takes to get that many maces I'm ready to go somewhere else.

How do you kill a drake anyway? I mean I've killed one before by getting it stuck high in the tree cover where it couldn't attack me and I killed another by standing on one side of a bridge just outside of Arindale and it was on the other while we were bot sort of beneath it. It kept spouting fire at me, but none of it reached me even though it seemed we were only 10 feet apart. Both times I had to use my bow and they took hella long.
When I got the egg for the House of the Tiger, I ran in and out. I tried stopping for a chest, but got nailed right in the middle of a disarm, so I clicked Leave and hightailed it. What's up with that? I thought the rest of the game paused while disarming/picking?
Anyway, finally found my first winter weap - a @#$%^& dagger. lol Got it off a lvl 6 chest in Ulm. I retried for about 20 minutes and found 4 venom shuriken (amongst the other weaps), but the #$%^&* game would NOT give me a winter shuriken.

You can kill drakes many ways. The most important thing to get is a celestial fire ward from arindale. You can kill them with a bunch of celestial lightning spells from fargrove. You can get a divine intervention crystal and the angel that it summons will kill one for you or at least help a lot. You can kill them with a bunch of ice balls or blast nova if you are a mage. You'll be hard pressed to find a better ice weapon till you get to naga temple or maybe even Draedoth temple. Poeple have killed them with a ice dagger but that must be tough. Run a search for 'how to kill a drake' there are some long post on the subject.
To get the chest you'll have to have a fire ward or kill all the dragons. The reason being that if the dragons have started to shoot thier fire or if it is on the way then pausing the game won't stop it. Let me say that a differant way. When a dragon starts to blow fire it is like casting a spell. The dragon goes through a motion before the fire comes out. If it has started that motion then pausing the game won't stop it. This is true for all spells. So to get to the chest pop a fire ward, run up to the chest and hit shift as quikly as possible (ie on the run) and after a fire blast or 2 the fire will stop open the chest and be ready to run away and heal if nessasary. It's a good idea to save before you run in to the fire drake area to open a chest in case something goes wrong and so you can reopen the chest to find what you want. D

The drakes aren't really worth much bother IMO. Kill them when you see them, never go lookin for them. Just kill every encounter you can when you travel, and all the bosses, and youll have no problem. FYI, when you're in naga, clear the prison area (The one past the hall of fire) before letting the thieves out. One of them will give you a key for letting them out which will open a door in the Tomb of Souls, where a mean mob is that is worth about 1million experiance if you kill him. I didnt have much trouble with him, then again I have great stuff acquired from Draedoth, and Naga. If memory serves, the thief in the most north eastern cell is the one that gives you a key... follow him like he owes you money once you let him out and talk to him.

Another place to get big exp points is to instead of giving the tree totem to the Guardians of the Forest pick a fight with them. It is a TOUGH fight because there are so many of them and they throw those branches at you that can knock you down. You should save before you start the fight perhaps. But if you pull it off you get about 1 million exp. I beat them with a bunch of blast nova. Pulling it off with just melee would be even tougher to be sure.
You can also fight Worglaw who sells the tree totem and then steal the tree totem. I don't remember how much exp he was worth but it was pretty good. He is pretty tough simular to some low level bosses. D

A littel later in the game Athena Blockers are worth 387,000 each in the Shadow Ruins. Just use a throwning knife to take them out before jumping. It takes for ever but it is worth it.

tree guardians
As ferncliff said, the tree guardians are worth about a million, but it certainly is a tough fight. I tried fighting them first before I ever went to get the tree totem, but the game wouldn't let me do it. Neither melee nor spells did anything and they didn't fight back. So I gave up and went to get the tree totem and accidentally started fighting worglaw. I'd just bought the darn thing when some bees came and I cast a poison cloud to deal with them. Worglaw was still in range and thought I was attacking him, so he went after me. He yelled out for other members of his tribe to help, but no one came and he wasn't too tough--worth close to 30k. Then when I went back to the guardians, with the totem this time, they attacked me right away. My theory is you have to kill Worglaw to be able to fight them. Has this been other people's experience? Anyway, not only can you get about a million xp for the bunch of them, you can save 10k gold on the tree totem. Only downside is you won't get the staff o' the grove which can summon harrowbark walkers.

Heavy Mace
Just for Info, if the Minotaur attacks you with the Heavy Mace, you can sell it for 1400 Gold at Vartuggs Fortress. Easily recovers the 500 Gold for the game not to speak of the experience.
I save these and take to Arindale to Temple of the Empyrean. With a bargin skill of 7 he gives me 4870 for it .I buy it back for 3200 and resell it back to him. nice easy way to make gold lol i make profit off just about everything so far

Killing guardians
Hey Master
I had almost the same thing happen to me. Some bees came along and tried to kill me just after I had bought the totem of the tree. I hacked away at them with my sword, and must have hit Worglaw by accident. He came and attacked me, so I killed him. A while later, I went to the guardians (for the first time) and they started attacking me pretty much straight away.

Here are some farming places:
Really Low Level outside Fargrove before Fargrove Sewers. Get a missle weapon-bow or throwing knife. Climb one of the rock pillars. These are tall domelike rocks maybe 3-4 times your characters height. With 1 in Athletics, you can jump (spacebar) and climb the rock to the top. The only thing that can hit you are bats, or enemies using spells or missles. Everything else is melee and can't hit you, while you plink at them with your bow. Climb down after killing them, pick up the loot and climb back up. In the options screen you can set the encounters to many and rack up the xp. Set the encounters back to less or normal when you are done xp farming. I got up to Level 7 before hitting Fargrove Sewers, which were much easier when I did go through.
Low to Medium Levels can farm XP in Fargrove. Besides the troll, there are a lot of Thieves, Grave Robbers, Snakes, Rats, etc that spawn, especially with more encounters turned on. The best spot for farming in Fargrove that I've found is standing right in front of the Arms of Argus Armory. This is right next to the gate that goes out of town to Skuldoon. The guards are immortal and will do most of the killing for you. Just plink away with a missle weapon and watch your xp rise. Little damage if any and if need be, the inn with a fireplace is right around the corner. I racked up over 300 healing potions and lockpicks in a couple hours worth of farming. Really easy.
Medium to Higher level can of course farm Moonbeasts on Lost Souls Island, but doing so AND picking up a moonstone will close Fargrove, so that method is to be considered carefully. Later in the game though, its great. The poster that said taking on 8-10 moonbeasts is a challenge is right on the money. Lots of fun, too.
Dragons are good, but they don't regenerate--but 250,000 xp is a lot of xp.
Others have listed higher areas...all good.
James.

Yes, you have to kill Worglaw to get the guardians to fight. I just did it. I had the game set on hard with more random encounters, so I ended up fighting Worglaw and about 25 ninjas. I already had given the totem to the guardians, so I already got the staff off of them. But, when I showed up after killing Worglaw, they attacked. So I got the staff and the exp both.
I fought them using melee only. I dual wield and my speed is about 290, so I can get some hits in pretty quick. I found that rolling is about the best way to avoid the limbs.

I am on CE, and when I climb one of those pillars in the forrest before the sewers (yeah, still there...) the monster generator sends theives with throwing knives and goblins with bows after me... so I have to jump down and run away for a while... the AE is definately meaner in the CE -

using drakes to gain XP
I have killed 12 drakes so far:
7 in the drake's area
1 over lost lake
1 on the way to Ulm
3 in the Forbidden lands (one was plain ole' random, one spawned after opening chest 39, and one spawned after opening chest 36)
I killed the 7 drakes in their area, sometimes 2 at a time, by waiting until AFTER dropping off Galdryn's Horn in Talendor, and AFTER going back to Fargrove for the 2nd time defeating Okata and ending the lockdown. It seems that you get a couple extra drake's spawning in their own area if you leave at least 1 Dragon Egg (had to take 1 to get this far in the game, of course).
Using Ice Blast spells and the Winter Dagger in combination with Ward of Fire it's not that hard to take the out. Using Summon Banshee also helps because they throw ice spells too.
The Forbidden Lands are a great place to get random encounter XP (set difficulty to Hard and frequency to High -- lots of spiders & wolves, but also lots of Rock Chunnelers (2 or 3 at time) and Trolls. In the Sargathian Moors I often get 2 or 3 HarrowBark Fiends and 1 Twisted Slyph together -- those are challenging because of the poison clouds & gripping vines she uses to paralyze you in conjunction with wolf summons biting you hard, plus the HarrowBark Fiends are whacking you with limbs which also stun you. Have at least 4 Crystals of Unpetrify if you can (I only have 2 and at times I was wondering if I'd be free of the Gripping Vines before either the poison clouds, wolves or HarrowBarks finish me off).
Currently, I have yet to gather any other relics, and I'm already a 15th level elven female mage/adept/battlemage/enchantress (with War Witch class quest on the log book but not completed yet). I have 15th level Arcane, and have lots of Fireballs, Magic Missles, Blast Nova's, Fire Burst's, Fire Nova's, Shrieking Stars, Flamethrowers and Ice Blasts. I am doing 65+ damage with Fire Nova taking out up to 12 Wolf Beasts or Death Widows with one spell! Whoo hoo!
Just wait until I get to the Vale of Ruin!

I got all of those (actually 2 by Ulm) and there were a couple more that I took out in the vale of ruin. I had an extra dragon egg that i was carrying around, so I put it back in the nest to see if I get another one to spawn. So far, no luck. I've got about 1 billion xp I need to gain to get my heavy shield and heavy armor up to level 10 so that I can become a death lord (and I'll still be getting a penalty from the death lord armor). I tried going back into the vale of ruin with monsters and encounters on high to gain xp faster, but it was a pain. Too many of those darn spectre's. If you get frozen once and there's four or five of them, you might as well kiss your butt goodbye. So far, I've found that moonbeasts' island and the northern steppes are about the easiest areas to build up xp fast. I wish the gladiator arena would let you take on 20 minatours at a time.
