Im a little worried it will be like KOTOR. I think it would make the game VERY linear to do that.
Good observation. I mean, they can all sorts of dialog trees, if all they take up is written space--which is much smaller than the amount of space taken up for voice files. Not to mention, all the professional recording and talent needed for the latter. So, like KotoR, they'd cut down on the amount of interaction. Alternatively, they could provide voice for just special encounters; but that's not the way they've chosen to go, after all.

I always liked the BG approach :) Snippets of important dialogue voiced, or a standard greeting relating to the type of character ("My hotel's as clean as an elven arse!" etc) so you got a greater a feel for the character but there weren't any constraints on the volume of text.

Although they have made some excellent choices for voice actors :)

Yes, I agree. Partly spoken, followed by written dialogue options; because it WILL become annoying if there are great wadges of spoken dialogue. Probably not so much the first time you play the game, but when you play it again and again, so you know what to expect... With written dialogue you just skip a lot of it when you know what's coming.

I think that's great.....first of all it's easier to listen than to read.....I hate it when i have to spend lot of time reading dialogs in a game when it would be a lot easier to listen to them.....reading takes to much time...I like that Sean Bean will be borowing his voice......too bad they haven't asked Alan Rickman for his...that man has a voice that gives me the chilles.. :D ...an Patrick Stewart is also great.....

There had BETTER BE "Closed Captions" (Text) in Oblivion!!! If you don't need them, you can turn them off. But, it's better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them!

This is coming from a person who is nearly deaf and can NEVER understand the spoken word in a game.

After playing through Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon....there had BETTER BE TEXT!!! Get the word out....NOW!

If there is not going to be any TEXT or CLOSED CAPTIONS, then my excitement about the upcoming release has all been to no avail.

Whom do I need to call to verify this?

EDIT: I have just received word from an official source that OBLIVION WILL include 'captions'. Whew!!!

I don't care

to me it dose not matter, i did not mind reading the dialog but if i don't have to thats cool to. i would be mad if it took away from my game play.
