I'll second RATM's self-titled. It's a killer album.

Dark Side of the Moon, if you don't own it, hit yourself until you do.

*smacks myself* ANYONE who likes rock with an emotional edge to it. Try out Flaw. They've got two albums out and I highly recommend both of them to anyone who likes a more heavy type of rock. One of my favorite bands.

Nothingface, Skeleton's Album. Heavy, but each and every song has a deep message. Not to mention, they SING, not toss out garbled trash you can't understand. This one, and Flaw, neither of those are "happy music" just as a FYI. If happy's your thing, my music's not for you.

I recommend you get the new White Stripes album, Get Behind Me Satan, and then tell me if it's any good. Well, I am just assuming it's as good as their previous albums only *new* and *exciting*!

My new favourite band is the Kaiser Chiefs. Their album Employment is full of catchy indie tunes. Other bands I am currently enjoying include Hot Hot Heat and Kasabian.

The Libertines' Up The Bracket. Slightly reminiscent of The Strokes, only better.

Belgian music has been really really bad for the last 50 years, but now it's beginning to improve. If you can find them, you might want to try albums of:

dEUS
The Eagles of Death Metal (not really Belgian as Josh Homme plays in it too)
Eels
Millionaire

Other good choices:

Tim Hutton's "Everything"
Queens of the Stone Age, their latest album
The Mars Volta
KISS (yes I think they're good)

None of it is metal, even not the Eagles of Death Metal. I don't like metal. Too much like screaming, not enough like singing. Although there are some great bands, but they're all retired or filled with grandpa's now, like Iron Maiden or Twisted Sisters. It's a pity that I don't like metal, as every year there is one of the biggest metal festivals 50 km from my house (Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel). But ofcourse I go there, just for the friends and for the beer

Edit: you can call me crazy, but I just bought the Bee Gee's best of album. And I actually enjoyed listening to it

I saw some very nice albums already. Like Radiohead's OK Computer is one of my personal favorites. I would like to add Doolittle from the Pixies to the list though, I got it a couple of months ago it's still very good, I won't get tired of it.

Pagan's Mind with Infinity Divine. However, I wonder if you can get hold of that album, since they are a Norwegian Band.

With Teeth- Nine Inch Nails. A different album then the rest, sort of.

Albums that I reckon will change your life (and give you a slightly new direction) but are all pretty easy going and rocking hard as mega*****es:

Bad Brains - Bad Brains
The first album from the hardcorest hardcore band to come out of the emerging scene in early 80s LA. They are immensely fast and angry, but all being former art-jazz players they are the most technically skilled of punk bands by miles, and as black rastafarians they have a refreshing perspective, and while doing this they were also a dub band, so they have grooves ja.

D|ck Dale - King Of The Surf Guitar
You will know D1ck Dale from his ultra-pumped rendition of Misirlou which was on the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction and is the theme tune to Taxi and Taxi II. He played mega fast twangy guitar music that combined r&b with Klezmer, Middle Eastern and gypsy music in the early 60's, and hence invented 'surf music'

Esma Redzepova - Songs Of A Macedonian Gypsy
She was a media darling briefly in the 70s but has been going since the 60s and still performs and records. She has an amazingly dramatic voice with ridiculous control of vibratto and modulation and an immense range, and features backing from all types of gypsy music, ranging from traditional Hindustani music to Argentinian style accordian tangos etc. You must hear her to believe!

The Sonics - Psycho Sonic
A band credited with precursing grunge - in the mid 60s in Washington state they basically played rock'n'roll and blues and motown classics in the most brutal, savage and mental style which makes any rock band until the Stooges sound extremely tame, including Blue Cheer. Also wrote several original songs,
concerning the themes of psychosis, drinking posion for kicks and having bad girlfriends killed by Satan.

Prince - Purple Rain
This album is the best compromise between Prince's ultra-horny lyrics about pseudo-Christian sexual healing (and just sex on its own) and his often unappreciated songwriting skill. He is camp enough to make you gay, AND also straight enough to make you straight...but also SEXY enough to make you extremely confused. He is very eclectic in the manner of Captain Beefheart or especially Kate Bush and will make you appreciate synths and wailing ****-power guitar solos.
