I'm sorry I don't remember many of the weapons off the top of my head ( i beat htis game 4 years ago) but I didn't fight firkraag till after I was out of the underdark at least which Im sure made it easier. Try any of Cromwell's weapons as they're all money. I'm partial to the Vorpal blade but it doesn't look like youve been to the underdark and you may need to for that one. Maybe he doesnt sell it until after your back from that quest to the land of shadow and doom that spawned everyones very race, the drow, but the dude at the adventurer's mart in athlatka sells a two handed sword +4 called the war blade that i used endgame and would definitely help.

Also if you have anyone that can use a katana there is a sexy amazing one in the temple district called celestial fury. I believe it's in a tent along the right hand side of the temple district map, north of the Paladin order HQ. Theres a tough fight in there against a bunch of random high powered characters, but if you can best them the Celestial fury owns (+3 and often stuns on attack, if i recall correctly). Katanas are the best weapons in the game and id recommend being able to use them with someone (even if it's haer dalis and you have to drop someone else because you MUST get another mage). I say (again) drop haer dalis and get another mage. Aerie is definitely not enough.

I'm sorry to say it, but Firk was a fight even after I was out of the underdark and everything and wearing the gorgon plate and armor of the heart, but before may be too much of a task. I don't know, but you definitely need another mage. As for magic missile just, just use every slot all your mages can on it. If you have 5 1st level slots, fill em with 5 magic missile. Try hunting down some lower resistance spells and such and fling them at him, maybe that'll help. Make sure jaheira summons all her bear friends, and maybe try the insect swarm idea (im sure hell be immune to it, but it's worth a shot). Maybe go off and try leveling up and finding weapons before you try, as there's alot to do even before you go in the underdark. I was just able to overpower him and I don't know if you're capable my friend, but good luck. ;)

Got any thoughts on what mage?

And this is a little off topic but I beat the adanimite golem the cheap way :D

I lured the stone golems out and killed em, and then i tried to lure the big one but he didnt fit in the path, so I kept using poison weapon and backstabbing him, then when he was stuck at the outer room, i took out my bow, used poison weapon, went where he couldnt kit me and i killed his arse :D

ok lets get back on topic

i did manage to get firkraag to barley injured using mm
Got any thoughts on what mage?
What alignment are you? There's a mage called Edwin who's insanely powerful and overpowers all other mages by far, but he's Evil. And your party seems to be good. :s

There's another mage waiting for you when passing through the underdark-chapters. You'll want her, I guess. But if you want to take care of Firk before doing like 2-3 chapters when you can't access Athkatla, she's not an option.

Jan is decent, but he's just a thief/mage. And you'll need spellpower.

Otherwise, I'd guess you'll have to do with Nalia. She's nothing compared to Edwin, and according to me, nothing against the one at the underdark either. But well. If you're not evil and not heading that way...

you're guys's advice worked! i almost beat him i got him down to near death.

first i got keldorn to use protection from evil on everyone except the 5 animals, then he casted true sight, then aerie casted resist fear and then fire shield(red)

i used the animals as a distraction and put most of my guys on archer duty except jaheira who was the summoner and haer' dalis and aerie who stood back and used magic missile. supprisingly, arrows + 2 worked well on him, so i hope i can beat him next time

btw i had edwin and he left :(

Well, too high reputation will make him uncomfortable. That's pretty bad, as he is probably the best addition your party could have gotten. Very well, there's some other mages that are decent. If you can wait untill you're going for the underdark, you'll get one you'll probably want to stay, as said.

Edwin almost makes the game too easy. :)

who is in the under dark?

Well, as you're probably understood the obvious SPOILER warning as you're asking for it, I'll tell you.

And it's actually before Underdark, but it's while heading there, so it's in the underdark chapters. Anyway.

You'll run into
Spoiler
Imoen again
. She's a thief that's capable of handling most (almost every) trap and lock in the game, and she's as good a mage as any pure one. (except a specialiced, who'll get +1 spell/level)

She's the best mage in the game according to me, except the obviously stronger Edwin. She'll play a huge roll in the story as well, so if you're into that stuff (which you should, as it's one of the strenght of the BG series) you should pick her up. She's good and will fit perfectly into your party, and will grant you the spellpower you need when combined with Aerie.

(I'm trying spoiler-tags here. If it doesn't work, I don't bother changing, but someone might fill me in how to do it.)

Now, what do I do about the shadow dragon...?

Probably the best idea is to cast as many magic missles as you can.A good way to cast em faster is to put them to triggers, contigencies and such...
I found out that she is also pretty weak to cone of cold and prismatic spray did a pretty good number of dam aswell. Also you might want to cast spells such as lower resist, but it isn`t needed if you got a lot of magic missles.I think i cast about 8-9 of them. When you are casting them then it is useful to breach her,to get the stoneskin off.

If you have defeated Firkraag then Shadow dragon,Traxilla,or something...will be easy pickings!

Same strategy.. but replace protection from fire / fireshield (red) etc. by protection from negative plane (to avoid level drain).

I just barley beat Firkraag though. Everyone except Keldorn and myself was dead, so I had to pick up Aerie's rod of ressurection. My own character killed it with the sword called Flametounge, because I didnt kave the dragonslayer.

Levels:
Berethor - Level 14 Assassin
Minsc - Level 11 Ranger
Keldorn - Level 11 Inquisitor
Aerie - Level 10 Mage/Level 11 Cleric
Jaheira - Level 9 Fighter/Level 12 Druid
Haer' Dalis - Level 13 Blade

Heres my strategy that worked.

1.Protection from evil on everyone.
2.Resist fear on everyone.
3.Aerie - Fire Shield (Red)
4.Keldorn - True Sight
5.Jaheira - Summon Animals
6.Jaheira - Animal Summoning III
7.I pretty much boxed him in. Aerie and Kaer' Dalis went into seperate corners facing him. Then just to keep me alive I put on a bow with arrows + 2 as well as minsc with the same thing and Keldorn with bolts + 2 and moved them to the side of it. I put Jaheira at the back with Club + 3. Blackblood. The 5 animals were facinghim, to take the blows and distract.
8.I started unleashing Magic Missiles(I threw about 7)and then just kept attacking.

Surprisingly, the mountain bears were very effective in damaging him. Jaheira was also efficient, same with everyone except Keldorn.Keldorn never managed to land a hit. He picked my guys off one by one, until it was only Me and Keldorn left. if it wasnt for me and my boots of speed, I would have been finished, because i had to run sometimes.

Perhaps you should have got Firkraag attacking Aerie with Stoneskin and Mirror Image active. Retreat when the defences are burned through.

And lots of Breach spells to dispel any of the dragon's stoneskins and weapon protections.

Yeah, but there is a problem. After casting a spell u have to have like a 10 second break before you can cast another...He got me right after my last Magic missile

Yeah, that can be a problem :( . Use wands in between spells. Or sequencer and contingency spells.

But there's an exploit to that. Try casting a spel, atacking, and using a wand or casting a spell again. If I'm not mistaken (long time no play) you can cast atack wand cast atack wand raising your number of movements dramatically. The option auto pause when spell is cast works wonders on this.

What wand should I use?

If you have TOB, wands of Spellstrike from Watcher's Keep that can fire Breach/Pierce Magic spells are useful to dispel the protections. Not sure about an offensive wand though.

Electrical wands works wonders with almost all dragons, except eletrical dragons. Also, cloudkill from wands is deadly against dragons. Of course, against you too. But asides from mr blue dragon, the rest of them fall for electricity damage.
