Vader means father in either German or Latin. When George was first writing Star Wars and instead of Skywalker Luke's last name was "Starkiller" he metioned that his story was essentially about a father and his two children. When it was i finish I conclude that he got Darth from Dark and Vader from Father...Dark Father; it makes sense Luke trying to bring Vader back to the Light.

Once and for all: Vader is Dutch for Father, in German it's Vater, in Latin Pater. But I think he might also be the (In-)Vader, such as Palpatine is (In-)Sidious. And for Palpatine not being called Sidious in the original trilogy, I suppose Lucas hadn't thought of him as a Sith Lord back then (It's Vader who is called Dark Lord of the Sith in the novels, while in retrospective he never rose to that position).

Some other suggestions:
Malak: malak means king in Arabic
Bandon: he abandoned the Jedi
Revan: a bit tricky, but probably referring to revenant = someone who returns after his death (in common usage meaning a ghost, but literally just meaning returner)
Maul: to maul someone; in German Maul is the mouth of an animal
Naga Sadow: naga means Serpent in Hindi; Sadow = Shadow
Ludo Kressh: didn't he die in a spaceship crash?
Even then the secret was guarded to GL and very few else. Even 'luke' didn't know about it until right before the scene. Vader was named vader for the first movie. The double entandre was lost until he started having meanings in the names.
Um, George Lucas wrote all three movies at the same time, then decided to split them up. So why wouldn't Lucas decide to name him Vader to symbolise father????? So what if Hammill and others didn't know???? They didn't really have input on the story. I don't see the point in your argument.  :)

How about Exar Kun???????
Of course, that wasn't really a Darth name.

Yes, I believe it is rooted in Latin, I believe it is 'to dominate' or something. :)

Asajj Ventress could be added to that list, as could be Tulak' Hord. :)
