Same problem

I just came in off of a search engine, too. I had the same problem but I fixed it, sort of.

The problem for me was that I downloaded a bunch of optional updates from windows update, including one called "Ezkey Corp. - Input Devices - Office Keyboard". I just figured, oh what the hell, can't hurt. :D

Anyway, when you install it there will be a process called mmkeybd.exe in the task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) and also in the programs list as "Netropa something or other". If you look at the device manager (right click on My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager), under "Keyboards" you will see your own keyboard plus something else called "Office Keyboard" or something like that.

I just tried random things. I rolled back the driver on "Office Keyboard", disabled mmkeybd.exe from the startup programs (in msconfig), I killed the task and then deleted mmkeybd.exe and mmkeybd.dll from C:\Windows.

There's probably a better way to do it but that's my attempt. I don't know if it will come back when I restart the computer. But, when I started Morrowing just now, I was able to use the tilde key to bring up the console. Try it out for yourself. Let me know if that was it!

I have the same problem

I have the same problem as the guy above. I also have a new Dell (Win xp Media Center) with a wireless keyboard and cannot access the console in either morrowind or oblivion. The tilde ~ does work in messages so I know the key works, just not from within the game. Also, the windows keys at the bottom that are supposed to minimize the game or bring up the windows menus do not function from within the game.

Any others with similiar problems/solutions? Maybe Dell Specific?

If its a UK keyboard, try pressing the key next to the number 1 key (below Esc) - thats the key that brings up the console on my dell pc. As for the windows key - that has no effect in my game either but thats not uncommon as it does that in a lot of games on my pc.

Problem with console solved!!

At least on my machine all I had to do was unplug the USB cable to the infrared remote for my tuner card. As long as it is unplugged the console works within both morrowind and oblivion. It stops as soon as I plug it back in. I did not have to modify or delete any keyboard setting or rollback drivers.

Hope this helps others.

Sweet, that worked for me as well, thanks. I wonder if there is some other way around this.

Glad to hear it is solved.

However I have another, albeit late, possibility...

I haven't got the game, so I have no idea whether this would do anything but...

Make a shortcut, then go to the options and change it to the following:
Target: <File Path> -console

This was required in Counter Strike, and a few other games if I remember correctly, it could help here too.

If it doesn't, and it probably won't, then just disregard this. :)

I think it's something to do with the IR sensor that comes with XP. Try disconnecting that.

EDIT: Just noticed there was another page... ooops
