Thats one way of doing it
Im not a big fan of it though. I'd much rather fight to near death outin plain sight than just walk up and kill everyone with no resistance. That would take the fun out of it for me. As for my tactics i usaully sneak attack with a bow (still only 2x) and then switch to my claymore, and hit em with destruction spells while they advance. Then its a matter of blocking, slashing and retreating with a spell.

Another brute force approach:
Equip kit for enhancing mana reserve & regen rate, then just cast a huge elemental damage spell on touch. (I use 100% weakness to fire/cold/shock, 100dmg fire/cold/shock, paralyse, & soul trap)
Ive yet to come across a creature that takes more than 3 attacks to kill - most die in 1, some in 2.

That's a tactic. Kind of an in your face tactic, but a tactic nonetheless. For me, the person who lives gets to decide who the hero is.

Personally, I find the game to be quite enjoyable if you are low level.
It creates challenge, and makes strategy a necessity.
Generally, I sneak around (slowly because the skill is low) and get the layout of the area. If there is only one person, I just sneak up behind him and stab him. I follow up with a powerful one-target spell, and finish with repeated stabbing.
If there are more than one characters, I often wait for them to leave their companions and then use the tactic mentioned above. Oftentimes, this cannot be done so easily, low level summons (skeleton/scamp) are great distractions and can be used to lure enemies out or away.
Sometimes, just finding a good spot that cannot be reached without jumping and then commencing with repeated shooting/spell blasting makes the battle almost too easy (unless you have Atronach/limited amount of arrows).
If the enemy uses spells/bows getting used to dodging them is a must.

I like Sneak. I also like Blade. I also like Destruction. So I use a combination:
Sneak, Whack, finish off with Magic if needed. Simple. Effective.
My favorite battle tactic is actually to sneak with my Dragon Bow out, draw out my Arrow of Burning, from a distance I shoot the enemy and then cast my most powerful fireball following it, usually takes them out pretty fast.
Dragon Bow ??? Whats that ? Some quest reward or your own "creation"...

Archers
for the Archers (if you didn't know), the pharmakeus way is....
A. enchant bow
use sigil stones- very easy, or join mages guild
B. poison arrows
get good at alchemy
C. sneak
get bonus attack
that's it. i'm serious. even if you're outnumbered, a good poison can save you. however, SOMETIMES, you need...
D. have a back up plan :speech:
summon, run and hide, scroll, etc

fave battle tactic
now then my fave battle tactic is this...
1. pull out sum sort of powerful weopon. while wearing fairly light armour, or black hand cloak and hood,
2.sneak on the enemy, i am expert in sneak, and use sneak attack, this will damage them heavily beacause of my powerful weopon [i use things such as, umbra, goldbrand, own enchanted longsword, etc.]
3. the enemy has now seen me if its not dead, so i decide to change my armour to something like elven armour, with my own enchantments, [ as i use light armour] and i also pull out a dagger and shield, this way i can attack with deadly speed and block if i need to.
4. i also hav a few spells hotkeys, my charchter isnt exaclty brilliant at spells, so i might use wizrds fury, [ gained sometime in the mages guild] and if their still not dead i would summon something like a skeleton or wraith and run and heal if need be, then i repetedly attack with blade or spells.
if there are a group of enemys, i will find some high ground out of view and equip a bow and some fire arrows, wait till the enemys are bunched together i fire a fire arrow wich will set a few on fire, i will now have been spotted so i usually use a paralze speel and attack with a powerful longsword, and heal if need be, this is how i usually fight on oblivion

1. Wear enchanted clothes with very high sneak and marksman enchantments.
2. engage sneak
3. Chameleon spell
4. use enchanted bow w/enchanted arrow if very powerful opponent
5. zoom in (if marksman is high enough)
6. take the shot. (make sure you are far away and near objects to run back to.
7. if enemy lives retreat and attack from another side with another sneak attack.
8. repeat until defeated.
******if fighting many enemies at once i usually try to pick them off but if not possible then i always keep a shortsword and shield ready so... hack them up**********

Great advice on stealth marksmanship kills in this thread. Since my last post I managed to get my sneak up to 100. That, plus 30% chameleon almost makes it too easy. I recently found myself standing in a dark corner deep in a den of marauders, shooting them from about 20 feet away, but the sneak-o-meter never indicated I had been spotted and the baddies kept babbling stuff like "where ARE you?" and "I'm going to have to quit drinking ale". Slaughtered them all without even being seen, much less taking a hit. It was almost enough to make me feel guilty... nah!

i did that at rockmilk or wutever but i had the ring of kajiit curaiss of crystaline30%chameleon the grey cowel , a deadric bow with 25 fire damage and arrows that do 45 points of fire damage but was out in the open in sneak mode

I usually beat the stuffing out of my enemies with my Daedric Longsword. When my target is just about to die, I paralyze him/her/it so he/she/it falls to the ground, then I take out my Daedric Bow, aim for the head, and let fly. The arrow gets stuck in their heads! Kinda like the Oblivion version of Gears of War's curb stomp.

I've used most of the tactics listed in this thread, even just running up to them with a claymore which I find quite satisfying.
Something I haven't seen, but find to be hilarious fun, is when you get these two bandit teams, usually one with a two handed blunt, and the other ranged with bow. Outside the Vilverin ayleid ruin comes to mind. Engage the melee guy and back up/side step till the Mr two hander is between you and the "marksman".
Most of those arrows will find the two handers back instead of your front. God I love that.

First post for me. I was just reading through and noticed no one uses my most recent tactic:
I wear heavy armour with enchantments focused on reducing the impact of magika.
I sneak (just with good sneak skill and the cowl (why not) up to the first enemy and king hit him with my master of hand to hand.
If that somehow doesn't kill him, I then do a sideways power attack, which usually confuses the enemy whilst disarming them. I quickly pick up their weapon.
What chance do they have beating a master of hand to hand in unarmed combat with massive magical resistance wearing heavy armour that he is profficient in? Practically none.
Hand to hand works well in group combat too because it's so fast, so you can easily stun or disarm people and reduce the number of blows coming your way at the same time by more than half, usually.
The good thing about hand to hand is I can steal lots of stuff and sell ALL of it without feeling like I've just sold my prized posessions haha
One other thing. Alchemy is underrated. It works great as a level builder, as it's so easy to make potions really fast. If you run out of ingredients, you can always steal them anywhere, harvest them, or buy out many different types of store people. Once you are Journeyman (I thinK - or maybe master) you don't have to combine two potions and you can level up so damn fast it's not funny. Plus this procedure is very profitable on the side.
Have fun

When I first got it I thinght I'd be cool to be permenately invisible. After I finally got to that point and killed a couple people, there was no sense of accomplishment or a reward for defeating someone. So I went back to plain choas, rush in with my friend storm atronach and slash 'n' electrocute anything that makes itself an enemy. Never failed me and is satisfying except deadra leave something wanted...(due to their weakness to electricty). But I've solved that too by turning the difficulty up to max on oblivon and one notch down in Tamreil(sp?).

level 100 sneak
Black hand robes
Daedric bow
Arrows of the inferno
sneak up
one arrow
daedric long sword of lightning
Dead
It even works in a room full of monster as long as they don't see you.
or if they just don't die
jump into a lake with waterbreathing potions
paralyze them
watch and laugh:laugh:

Key to succes
I like to take my bow and arrows and turn difficulty up all the way and use paralyze(7 seconds) potions and get 1 person by them self. I then shoot them and continue shooting them while they are paralyzed... Wash/Rinse/Repeat

sneak and slash
If you are far away from the opponentes, here is an option. draw your best bow, with your best arrow,(or not if ur fighting weak stuff) then fire your bow to get 3X damage. if u are far enough away, though, when your bow returns to normal position, immeadiatly equip your sword. you should get a
6X sneak attack if the arrow is in the air when you equip your sword. the sword does not have to be fully drawn for this to work. (note: i do this on xbox 360, it may not work on pc!):mischief:
ps: magical damage should multiply for these attcks

I just go into battle waving a two hand blade. No sneaking, no critical hit, just run and slash. If things start getting a bit weird I use a shock, frost, fire or any other spell depending on the enemy. Usually it works, but if it doesn't, I just hide my pride and warrior code and run as fast as I can.
