I just realised that I sort of cheat...

Hopesfire acts like a torch/lantern/light spell as well as being a weapon...

That is precisely why I prefer it. Plus, you can control how much of an area it will light up by the number of points you allocate during the enchanting process...which also feels like less of a cheat.

I tend to prefer light because it shows things closer to their true color. Also, I have never had a problem sneaking with light.
