For those of you who enjoy the embarrasment I can heartily recommend playing as a Wild Mage.
There's nothing like turning your entire party into squirrles at the most vital point in your battle with Firkraag.
My favorite class--I laughed so much when my Wild Mage turned himself into a girl! In a split second he went from being Berethor to Berethorette. Ironically, Edwin was Edwina at the time.

I'm embarassed for someone else.
I was playing on Gamespy and our party was doing Watcher's Keep. The child of Bhaal, gets killed by a quasit on level 3.
A QUASIT.
Anyway, after we reach level 4, I go to solo the dragon, however, I need the rest of the party to enter area. Our tanker mage goes right ahead, remember, he got killed by a quasit, and tries to attack the dragon, with the rest of us at the entrance to the layer.

The first time I went through the game I didn't understand how to use spell crackers and understand spell protections.
Man did my battles take a long time...

Ok....so Im at the city gates and have managed not only to lure the lich out of his tomb, but into the streets. We run back inside, grab Daystar then we burst back out the door (me with daystar in hand) ready to rid the lands of this horrid creature. Trouble is, hes killed most of the innocent bystanders and the survivors are now hostile towards ME! Several Lich kills later you'd think Id be smarter....uh uh. Now we're taking on Kangaxx and after an ugly battle with his original form we are now dealing with our first Demi Lich. In my wisdom I decide to use the "tease him and run till he's wasted all his spells" tactic.Hardly a stroke of genius. Plays out something like this.............
Demi Lich advances and fires off a spell.
I yell " get the hell outta here party!!!" and we scurry to the staircase.
Im last in line, so spell hits me as Im on the stairs, we reach the floor above and I drop dead. Only problem is, the game auto saves on that staircase
so forget about us beating Kangys first form! All I could do was reload, run upstairs, die..........reload, run upstairs, die.........
As a footnote, I would just like to say that its probably not a great idea to pick pocket Renal Bloodscalp until your party is at a level capable of taking on an entire thieves guild.
P.S. I would also like to personally congratulate Dragon wench on the monster she has created. I watch it grow each day and dont imagine it will stop at 2 pages. This thread is a celebration of our mistakes.........we hate them in the present, but laugh together when they have passed.

I suppose this is dense enough to mention here...
I download the NPC mod Amber because I am a mod whore and can't stop myself from trying any new NPC I see. I was also interested in the fact that Amber will romance either the protagonist, or the player in the second spot of a multiplayer game. Well, this made my day, since I could now try out two mods at the same time by simply starting a multiplayer game with two characters and then running a single player game from the save.
All that was nice enough, but I grew extremely frustrated after three attempts at rolling my characters in multiplayer and not being able to start a game. I canceled several attempts, as well as verbally abused my game, computer, and anything else that got in the way. Suddenly, I noticed the really big, really obvious check boxes beside each character that makes them an active character and thus allows me to start the game.
The worst part? It's not like I haven't done this before. I not only didn't notice the check boxes, I forgot about having to use them in the first place.

@BS,
lol!
I had a similar experience in that it was more to do with the tech side of things than the actual game playing. I forgot how to access the CLUA console, and even when I had properly figured it out (with help from here), I kept looking for a box in the upper, mid part of my screen like in Morrowind. It was only when I glanced down that I realised I'd actually succeeded in opening the console.

I was near a tantrum state today as I couldn't for the life of me figure out why my character wasn't moving. Then I noticed none of them were moving. I was going nuts because it had been a while since I saved then it dawned on me....
CHECK THE PAUSE. Apparently I had accidentally hit the spacebar as I got up to go to the door for something. Took me 5-10 minutes to figure this out

Stupid golem
So Aran Linvail asks my 15th level (solo) Kensai/Mage to wipe out Bodhi's guild so I can go to Spellhold, and I'm like: "No problemo, big guy!"
I enter the crypt, waste some vampires, retrieve the Mace of Disruption from the pool of blood, and proceed to put those evil blood drinkers down for good by staking them. But wait: the room is guarded by a Clay Golem! So I activate a Kai and try to take the golem down with my beautiful Daystar and Dakkon Zerth Blade.
"The Undertaker: critical hit"
"The Undertaker: weapon ineffective"
(low rumbling voice) "This weapon does nothing!"
Apparently you can't kill Clayface with sharp, pointy weapons. Kinda sucks if you can't kill some clay dude when you
can slash an entire coven of vampires to ribbons without losing a single hit point

If you have the Mace of Disruption... why did you try and use your sword against clay golem???

I managed to die yesterdat in the first room of Irenicus' dungeon without facing a single enemy.
Between freeing Jaheira, Minsc and Imoen locating a trap my Wild Mage had gained enough experience to level up. Well I clicked on the Bhaalspawn ability that temporarily affects STR, CON and DEX (DUHM?) - to boost my HP gain - and low and behold a cow fell from the sky and crushed me to death.
I had no idea Wild Magic surges affected Bhaalspawn powers?

wow this is an old thread... but i just have to say
i was chilling in the sewers with my fighter-thief, and i killed everyone there. the raksasha, the mind flayers, and that other party. however, i changed from my "equalizer" (charm protection) to my "usunos blade", and was stunned quite literaly, when i am held, and subsequently charmed, by a kobold shaman.. i believe the chances of rolling two consecutive ones are 400:1
the best part is that i was soloing, so it killed me

Perfectly good thread to resurrect. It's not like it only has one answer, and we're always getting new players for BG2.

I won SOA, but in the dirtiest way I could think of at the time. I got this cloak that made my fighter/mage protagonist immune to beholder rays and most magic, and I think I went into Watcher's Keep as soon as possible just to get some +3 and +4 weapons, then left before I was done with the first floor. Everything up to Irenicus was just cheese. I remember sending my protagonist into a cave full of beholders, alone, and stabbing them all to death with a +3 spear while all the rays just bounced off. I had a 5 person party, but the other 4 guys just sat around while the main character lamed everything.
So technically, I won, but I feel like a dirty cheater and I'm not proud of it. Someday, I'm going to start a new game and leave the cloak alone.
I was even worse with IWD II.

IorDMUX wrote:Just spent fifteen minutes talking with the Elven commander Elhan and his truth sages convincing them:
No, I'm not evil... No, Viconia won't eat your children... Yes, Irenicus = bad guy...

*sigh*
LOL - I had that happen to me as well but way earlier than that - when I went to see Keldorn's family her turned on Viconia and I had to dismiss him before it got out of control - there is no way to keep the two in the same group.

not funny
I started a game like a mage once, went threw the dungeon on my own, the last fight before you leave irenicus dungeon, I forgot to watch for the thief that's invisible, attacked the man in the center and got backstabbed by the thief twice, me=dead meat!
*shy*

On my first game, I was killed 5 times by the halfling wizard(damn my low fighter saves and death spell). Also my kensai/mage who could cast level 8 spells got wasted by a couple of shadows(like 8) because his mirror image timed out as he entered the mob, alone. He was about to recast, but a shadow managed to hold me, resulting in geting toasted while I couldn't dodge, attack and cast

When playing my vanilla Ranger, I was defeated by Amalas in the Copper Coronet because I had 4 critical misses listed in a row in my combat log before hitting twice and critically missing twice more.
Suffice to say, ouch. What are the odds of that?
