Xandax wrote:Dunno, but could be because the game is made so easy quest-wise, fewer people are "stuck" with quests, and thus do not need to post many questions.
I mean with questmarkers, mapmarkers, extensive journal and fast travel it is hard to be stuck with quest, and that is normally one aspect people usually uses forums for.
I think Xandax is right on here. I don't care what anyone says, every game has it's nay-sayers. This game is terrific, it's just that Bethesda made it pretty much fool-proof in the quest department with the addition of the compass, map markers, etc. That was what most of the posts on Morrowind were, after all... "ah-duhhhh, I can't find a guar." "Uhhhh, I can't find Rethan Ancestral Tomb", "Doyyyy, where's Ald-Ruhn?". And towards the end, when pretty much everything had been discussed, it was mostly "What type of character do you play?", and "How does this character sound to you?" - the point at which I stopped frequenting that forum.
Almost everyone, it seems, who has Oblivion, has played Morrowind extensively, and the extra features that make quests easier to carry out (and THANK GOD!!! I HATED trecking all over Vvardenfell's half acres just for some random silly temple or mages guild quest!!!) mean that there is just so much less to have to ask questions about!
I will certainly agree with you, though, I get sad when I come to this forum and there are very few on. I like discussing games I like, and I LOVE Oblivion. There's so much more to do - no matter where you are in this game, there are always tons of places nearby to loot and pillage, and the fast travel (to me) is a lifesaver. Much better than mark and recall, or divine and almsivi intervention.
I suppose there are plenty of people who would love to talk more about Oblivion, but perhaps they just don't want to dirty it with the "duhhhhh"s and "doyyyyyy"s of the Morrowind forum.... so there.

i don't mean to be contradictory to the way the site runs but, once most of the questions have been answered they can just use the search function.
is it that they aren't logging on anymore or that they just don't post anymore.
and although oblivion is a great game, it tends to become tiresome. if you complete all the quests of intrest (for me DB and TG) then the desire to play slowly whittles away. The main quest in my opinion becomes a bore after about 2 or 3 oblivion gates. it's the same routine over and over again.
but oblivion to some is an addicting game that doesn't tire. They never get tired of the long range bow shots, hacking through creatures, uncovering secrets, getting the latest gossip, stealing all that can be stolen, uncovering every temple and cave.
those are the people that are still here.
everyone else has gone.

People are so addicted to the game they don't want to stop long enough to say high to us at GameBanshee.  Oblivion is a wonderful game and the graphics and animations are top notch!

I'm, with you, kid!
I also found it tedious in the extreme to treck round all over the place missing the location I was supposed to be looking for.
I CAN understand people want realism, and am sympathetic to that desire. Map-markers and compass pointers are not not exactly realistic!
But they DO save such a lot of frustrating trecking around!
(One thing I really want is a button to highlight treasure. Sometimes it is VERY difficult to see where items have fallen into 'grass', or have flown away to in dungeons when the npc baddie has dropped it. Sometimes a weapon just seems to vanish into the walls

).
I liked Mark and Recall, though. You could lift fantastic quantities of loot all in one go, straight to the interior of your house, or even to the interior of a shop. Now you have to make numerous journeys to get all the stuff home.

I am surprised and pleased that this thread has been allowed to continue since it is not about Oblivion per se but a chat about the merits of the game that has carried for two pages.
Back to the original posters question.
It's not Oblivion that's dying, it is this particular forum. There are other Oblivion forums that are so busy you can't post to a thread without someone beating you to the punch. Impatient questioners bump after 20 minutes.
Also, the difficulty of posting spoilers here is a turn off. Other sites have a spoilers sub forum, a hardware/troubleshooting subforum, a mods subforum and a general oblivion forum. (ie. Elderscrolls).
The posting rules here are a little stricter and more closely moderated than many other forums. Which has good and bad concequences. The bad is that many Oblivion forum goers go elsewhere.

If it is considered difficult to type the word "spoiler" in the thread title and use the "[ spoiler]" tag now adays, then I can fully understand why Bethesda has had to implement so much help in the game.
It will always be "hard" to compete with official forums anyways, as the posters then expect they are closer to the developers and have higher likelyhood of them posting. But from what I read on the ES-forums, I'm glad I do not post or read much read there.

That's the truth, people go there simply because of the Bethy connections. I am a relatively regular visitor there, although I post rarely, if almost never. It annoys me to no end to have to go through all the idiocy posted there, and I for one am rather greatful that we do not have to go through that here. True enough, you can find solutions for many problems there, especially when the game just came out, it was a good place to look, but having to go through it all to find something - ugh. The one thing I do like about them is the mod forum, but I think it is unrealistic to expect something like that here on GB. Otherwise I think the Obl here on GB is going through it's natural cycle, hyper at the beginning and it'll settle from then on.

Natural Progression (spoiler)
I think all forums die eventually unless there is a lot of mods being made
for it. I used to visit here more often, but I don't really have any more
questions about the game. I like the game a lot. I think it's a hoot to chase
down a deer on foot and plunge a dagger in it's heart or cast a fireball and
see how far it'll fly. One of the earlier threads mentioned something about
not being able to carry enough out of the dungeons. If you master alchemy,
you can easily make a 750 pound potion of feather and you can drink up to
4 of them. They stack. That's 3000 lbs of junk extra you can carry. Add in
beast of burden spell and its 3300 lbs. I've looted 2 or 3 dungeons and
carried everything out down to the last dagger or arrow.

Ho-hum, here we go again...
after playing Oblivion for weeks I was getting really bored with the "sameness" of everything so I decided to play another game for awhile. I chose Gothic II Gold and after playing for an equally long time I still look forward to booting it up and seeing how far I can get that day. The caves are all different, there is more variety (IMO) of monsters and just a little more excitment. I'll go play Oblivion sometimes, but am also really looking forward to Gothic III.
I think many people feel the same way and interest in Oblivion is waning as I see many of the same questions coming up again and again in the forum.

Not much green grass either, is there?

Not much colour at all, in fact.
Oblivion graphics are so good, I could NEVER kill the deer! I know venison is useful, but I only buy it in shops or find it somewhere. Hypocrisy? Yeah. But I still can't kill the deer.
Nor the unicorn. I mean, come on! How could anyone kill the only unicorn?
BTW, I have seen wild horses too - are they escapees or really wild? Can you catch and ride them?
well if you don't like the game leave the forum.
i dont come here alot cause as soon as i got oblivion i came to here and other choice sites and copy and pasted my little heart away.

Still kickin'
It's not dead yet, I love Oblivion, the trees, grass blowing, senic views & that there other things to do when I'm not in the mood to hack & slash. I love being able to roam around & do as I like. ( I've played my charcters to level 51, 43. 6 and 18, so far & I think about what I'll do next time to make my experiences different- and my character better.
