It was set up to discuss what kind of romance/love interaction, if any, should exist in an RPG. Along with some humor, as indicated in the thread starter's first post. ("What is our life without love? What is RPG without a romance?")

Feel free to drop in. The water's fine.

Innocence Abused:

I'm not going to get away unscorched by this theme, am I?

Evil Clown's Toxic Granny:

Nope. Taste my evil pixels!!!

quote:
Why stop there? Why not get an inflatable Game-Player(tm), shaped like a human (two sexes available), with all parts present and accounted for? Then mechanical, pregenerated game comments in a romance script could be felt and responded to by an air-filled object without emotions--perfect!

Aha, now we are talking business. We can share our millions! Let's get Xandax involved: he is a computer guy, we can use him. :mischief:

I will risk a back-to-back post because I would like to return to the discussion. Please join.
Does the "romance" enhance NPC interaction at all? How far should it go? Should it be "sweet" only or also "bitter-sweet", "lemon-flavored with a touch of Amaretto" etc? ;)

First of all, I think the romance option is like a druid class. You don't have to play a druid (I don't) but it is nice to have this option available.
I think romance does enhance NPC interaction. I would like to see more variety though.

I also think that it should be better "role-played". For example, it is wrong for a paladin to ask his beloved to accompany him to a nearby inn (bushes, woods, jungle, gutter). It is weird for an elf to woo a dwarf.
It is unlikely to pursue an orc; so for an orcish character it should be much more difficult to charm any NPC.

Charismatic chars should be more successful. High STR and CON should be more attractive to a dwarven NPC. Mage NPC would appreciate INT. And so on.
Alignment should not play a big role, though a paladin would be repulsed by an evil monk, it is just natural. It is also natural for an evil rouge to desire a pure elven maiden (for a very obvious reason, he-he).

What do you guys think?

I have another question as well. Is it really necessary for any RPG to have romance at all? Considering how most games, including RPGs, are still good and enjoyable even without involving romance, I don't consider it as necessary at all. And yes, as I said before, I don't mind having romances in an RPG but, to me, I prefer a romance that is part of the story/plot of a game that have romance in it as what I mentioned previously. Not one that has nothing to do with the story at all.
